Looking to Buy First Gaming Laptop

Hi, looking at getting my son his first gaming laptop. He's only 14 but pretty keen on gaming, would also like for him to be able to learn some coding and general use. From what I've looked at, the Acer Nitro's look like good value. I'm considering the 3 below, I get that the most expensive is the best but just wondering which would be the best value and is the extra $500 actually worth it or will he most likely not even notice the difference?

The first gaming laptop ever sold was the Razer Blade. It was released in 2011 and was considered the first true gaming laptop (https://www.thedailystar.net/bytes/news/the-evolution-gaming…). The Razer Blade was only 0.88 inches thin and weighed less than 7 pounds, making it a balance between portability and performance.

    I hope that helps!

  • Hey man,
I would go with a 4050 for future setup upgradability and DLSS3. If you do have one or will get a 1440p or higher monitor in the future, I’d go with the 4060. As far as the minimal needs, the 3050 is good enough already if you are on a tight budget, though the 4050 is 39% more effective according to UserBenchmarks.
    Good luck!

  • If just playing on the laptop screen, then the cheapest will be fine ….

If planning on plugging it into an external screen to game, then consider the 4060 …

  • Acer Nitros with a RTX 4050 often hit between the $1K-$1.1K price bracket here on OzB, wait around a while and pick up one of those when they're offered.

Would recommend a desktop where possible; better value and the Nitro probably won't be a good option for BYOD in high school anyway (too heavy/bulky, bad battery life, etc.)
