What Product Did You Judge Unfairly and Then Revise Your Opinion on?

After venturing into the world of coffee beans, having previously been in the realm of coffee pods, I experimented with various providers such as Vittoria, Campos, Harris, and local smaller coffee roasters. When I tried Aldi beans, specifically, I believe it was the Lazio Dark (though I'm not certain), I encountered a negative experience. Upon purchasing the beans, I placed them in my automatic coffee machine, pressed the magic caffeine button, and added milk to make an iced coffee as usual. However, upon tasting it, I found it to be akin to burnt dirt. I attempted to troubleshoot by changing the water, adjusting the grind, and more, but the taste persisted. Trying other leftover beans resulted in a good flavour, leading me to believe it wasn't the coffee machine causing the issue. Eventually, I decided to discard the Aldi beans as they consistently produced undrinkable coffees.

Since that incident, I have refrained from buying another Aldi coffee bean bag, assuming that my palate differed from those who enjoyed their beans and that I should generally avoid them.

Fast forward to 2024 when I received a bag of Aldi coffee beans as a gift - the Lazzio Brazil single-origin beans. Cautiously, I placed them in my automatic coffee machine, pressed the magic caffeine button, and added milk to make an iced coffee as usual. To my surprise, it turned out to be quite enjoyable, not a perfect 10/10 (for me), but a solid 7.0 or 7.5/10. I was mostly in shock, expecting the worst, and now feeling a bit silly for not having given them another chance earlier.

So, I pose the question: What product did you judge unfairly and then revise your opinion on?

P.S. For what it's worth, I typically enjoy an iced latte with no sugar and extra ice each work morning.

TLDR: Aldi coffee beans, are not the worst (I did get a lemon batch the first time I tried them though)

How many happy little accidents did it take you to change your mind ?

  • Peace

    • righhht, peace is boring until ww3 gets closer and closer….

      • Nope, did I say or infer anything with a single word?
The west is addicted to war. Why? It creates jobs and money and keeps the plebs busy shitting themselves.

I prefer the alternative, but was not sold on the 'wests' definition of it, which is not peace, but control of other cultures as a means to an end.

WW3 is probs a bees dick away, as of today. Thanks to a country whose name we dare not utter

        • Only inferred "What product did you judge unfairly and then revise your opinion on" = Peace

Coolcabana- thought they were a blight on our fair shores.

Used one once and the shade they provide in this UV rich/ozone depleted great nation of ours convinced me otherwise.

    Air Fryer.

I though it was a gimmick but they are very useful and heats up food much faster than an oven.

The only thing I don't like is that the coating on the non-stick comes off easily. I line the try with aluminum foil

    • ohhh true this as well!

    • dont use aluminum. spend the money on the pre cut baking paper.

I used to buy the precut circles for my square air fryer. Just recently got square pattypans, and the no cleanup issues since.

      • Why not aluminium?

Good idea about the baking pan.

        • Aluminium is a (soft) metal. Metals will remove the non stick surface

          • @Davo1111: True.

But the non stick didn’t look so good so have used aluminium each time since.

100% air fryer. Wasn't a believer but now use it a few times a week and never bother with the oven.
Also multicooker. Figured just another gadget that did everything poorly but it works really well for frying, pressure cooking, slow cooking, baking (pretty much steaming) and as a rice cooker.

Battery powered garden tools. Had an electric mower and whipper snipper about 15 years ago that made me hate mowing as it was chronically underpowered and took at least triple the time to do the job compared to a cheap petrol model. Decided to give them another go after watching some recent youtube videos and seeing that Ego have a 30-day money back guarantee. I'm blown away by how good they are now, especially the brands with higher powered batteries like Ego (56V). The mower and whipper snipper are genuinely about the same level of power compared to regular petrol models. I still have a Honda mower and Stihl FS250 brushcutter for bigger jobs (I run a lawn/property maintenance business) but 90% of my commercial jobs are done with battery tools now.

Air fryer as well. Bought my first one a couple of years ago and have not used the oven since. I have tried both the drawer and door types but prefer the door type as I find it cooks more evenly.
