Before You Buy The Kmart Anko "Smart Tag" (Apple Air Tag Imitation)

Hello, first time poster. Today I picked up one of these from Kmart.

It wasn't clear on the packaging, but these do not have the precise location feature like Apple airtags. I bought them expecting that they didn't, but thought I'd post since there it isn't clear online.

They do chime when you ping them via the Find My App and show their estimated location (like real Airtags). No other app needed.

To set them up, you need to manually "Add other item" via the Find My App after you've pulled the battery tab. This also wasn't clear to me, but I eventually figured it out.

Hopefully this helps at least one person. Feel free to ask any other questions.

Thank you.

might be a good alternative if you can disable the speaker.

    • I just opened it up and took photos, not sure how to attach. But it seems like the speaker is on the other side of the where the battery door is. So I assume to remove the speaker, you would need to remove the housing itself. Additionally, they have a "factory reset" like real air tags, however its 3 quick battery reinserts to trigger it.

  • They do chime when you ping them via the Find My App.

Good enough for me. Really just want to find my keys and other random stuff I leave around the house or office.

Thanks might buy a few. Still waiting for the authentic ones to hit sub 120 for 4 pack (getting pretty close from previous deals)

    • You're welcome, I'm in the same boat waiting for ~120 for a 4 pack or even a second generation (if any).

    So these are lemon airtags

    • They do state "works with Find My" on the packaging. I will let you know if they have any severe issues but for now chiming and getting a location seems okay for $20.

All good, just having a joke

        • I just got the joke haha

  • Anyone tried these bad boys

    • Yep - had four until one went through the wash. One I had to re-pair after putting a new battery in but all good

  • I'd just stick with AirTags. And when AirTag 2 comes out buy those. They aren't that expensive and whatever you're tracking has to be worth the few extra bucks.

  • any cheap 3rd party tag for samsung?

  • Hi, I bought one of these today and my find my and other apps aren’t recognising it. Is there a specific way to get them to pick it up?

    Thanks

    • Hi,
Did you do what Op stated. "To set them up, you need to manually "Add other item" via the Find My App".

Hello, so what you need to do is:

      1) Pull the plastic battery tab out, it will chime indicating it turned on.
      2) Go to the Find My App on your iPhone
      3) There is a "+" button located on the right edge, tap that and "Add other item".
      4) It should start searching for your tag, the tag will be named of numbers like "1234567890".
      5) From there you should be able to add and rename the tag.

You need to be on iOS 14.5 or greater (Just in case).

It sucks because I didn't find it any instructions on the Kmart website, nor did it come with instructions. I could've maybe It was ripped off when I opened the packaging too.

  • Have Apple already stopped them selling it? Link now just goes to the homepage and a search on the website and Google comes up empty handed. Weird!
