Norton 360 or Bitdefender Total Security - which one is better?

I am currently using Norton 360. Happy with it but it is getting more and more expensive (10 devices).

Has anyone used the bitdefender total security?

Speed, protection etc.

I have used bitdefender total security for 9 years now . It is excellent. Bitdefender always ratescbetter than norton in reviews and uses less memry on your pc. I have bitdefender total security on both pc and android phone. I havent had a virus trojan or anything unsavoury since first installing it. . There are quite often deals going for bitdefender, I always top up my subscription when i see good deal

You don't need either of them on Windows. Waste of money and CPU/RAM resources.

Malwarebytes is maybe the only one worth getting on top of built-in Windows Defender.

According to AV-Comparatives, the CPU/RAM claim is completely false. Third party AV solutions can have better resource management than Windows Defender. Just because it's built-in, doesn't make it more efficient or effective.

The built in Windows Defender is great and all you need.

Don't waste your money, use Windows defender

  • What about eset

  • windows defender and stop going to dodgy websites

If you love getting unwanted spam then Norton. As they will go and email you about every 24 hours swapping between you need a password manager/a longer license/higher level/additional product.
The company that I had used for years Bullguard was taken over by Norton and when they did the accounts merge. It became open season for high levels of spam. You need this product now and would cycle. I ended up changing my username to customerservice at Nortonlifelock and abandoning the remainder of my license time. Bullguard would only tell me important stuff not try and sell me every product they have ever sold.

I do use Bitdefender total security. But I'm sick of turning my PC on only for it to do vulnerability scans and other useless stuff. But I am very much of a I think when it expires I will use malwarebytes and maybe a standalone firewall. As I don't like how long it takes to get to the useful parts of windows defender.
Also my bank has a thing saying under fraud "if we don't believe your PC is secured correctly (using windows default settings)" clause to get out of helping/caring. As I would think bog-standard defender would be deemed to be default settings. So I would rather have something besides defender just in case. :)

    Kaspersky.

Windows Defender is ok. I use Kaspersky as it is better on computer resources, more effective and relatively cheap through SaveOnIT ($25/y for 10 devices).

ESET or Bitdefender I'm sure would be alright too as they are both reputable and have good performance. I tried both of these and settled on Kaspersky. Norton is known for being very pushy and spam their other products on their already paying customers relentlessly and I don't like that business practice.

+1 for SaveOnIT and their cheap Kaspersky licenses. Also, good value on ESET licenses even though expensive is exceptionally good value compared to retail.

WD is fine and is very good for free it's just advanced attacks can be hard to defend against with WD. For that you really need an anti-exploit/whitelisting/HIPS tool to compliment it. There are several good free one's like Hard Configurator/SWH and paid ones like AppGuard/Xcitium,(Comodo Firewall)/OSArmor/HMP.Alert but they are not for the faint hearted and need a lot of tweaking.

  • Thanks everyone.

My norton renewal for 10 devices was supposed to be $225.

I uninstalled it and installed bitdefender.

I received an email from norton as soon as I uninstalled norton with a $100 renewal offer. I clicked on the link in the email. Still decided to close the offer window, guess what, renew with another 20% off. $80 10 devices for 1 year, not bad. I actually like Norton.
