Portable Flood Light for Outdoor Sports and Camping

I'm mainly looking for a battery flood light setup for outdoor sports roughly for a 20m x 10m area.

I've been checking out some portable flood lights with outrageous claims of 10,000 - 20,000 lumens but can't see proper night shots. The ones i've been looking at are various clones of this one:

Would 2 of these be realistic to light up a volleyball court, attached on top of each post shining down on each side?

  • I really don't think so when it's 100W equiv and the beam is the size of a chunky hand: https://ae01.alicdn.com/kf/A2f8a2a6ba36a40feb8f351d7d5d6bb11…

  • Interesting challenge, here's a possible off-the-shelf option: https://www.pitstopgroup.com.au/product/drivetech-4x4-telesc…

    • Thanks. It seems like the light panels are fixed so they can't be swivelled or directed to each side of the court.

I was thinking if i could attach lights to the existing net poles that would be one less thing that occupies space and weight, as well as potentially getting knocked over.

      • Sure, but at least they're sufficiently high to not be in your line of sight.

  • How well lit do you need it, and how long does it need to run?

Some of the power tool companies make floodlights powered by tool batteries. I’ve got a Ryobi floodlight that’s pretty good. If you’ve got cordless tools, check out what suits your batteries.

    • 3+ hours should be enough.

  • The ego floodlilghts work really well but are a bit costly, come in 10,000 lumens to illuminate large areas and that would be a real 10k lumen, not an aliexpress 10k.

    • Thanks. Looks like a suitable option but yea the price tag of $350 + $350 battery doesn't sound it would justify the use case.

  • Looking at similar 10,000 lumen options from Makita, Bosch, Metabo all seem to be hovering around the $800+ price range when you include a battery. The weight factor also doesn't make it seem practical to just hang on the net poles so they will either need to stay on the ground or get extra telescopic poles (adding more bulk and weight).

I'm thinking the alternative is getting a portable power station like a Bluetti EB70 and pair that with 300w LED flood lights like this https://www.amazon.com/CHARON-Daylight-Waterproof-Security-F…

It's not as convenient as an all in one package but at least the power station provides more versatility use cases.

Or am I being delusional about this?

    • Did you see this series of posts? http://studio939.blogspot.com/2016/01/introduction-portable-…
It's some years old so the images don't load, but you'll get the general idea…

      • Thanks that's interesting he went with several small flood light setup. But it ended up costing over $2k along with the DIY time hacking required to make it all work. It's odd that he didn't address the potential ball hazard knocking over the light poles.
