Airport GST Rebate

I had a read on the GST rebate scheme for travellers out of Australia and wanted to be clear…

Say if I bought a discounted item off eBay, what are the chances I can claim rebate on it?

And according to the scheme, if I bring the item back to Australia, so long as its price was below $900 I can declare it and not have to pay tax on it?

Am I missing something?

You need to have an invoice with a company ABN on it amongst other things.

Is the ebay company you are buying from a company that has an ABN?

    • Good shout Ill have a look at that before I purchase.

So the return leg and bringing the product back should have no issues?

The Tax Invoice has to show the relevant items which includes the GST component.

In my experience, they rarely check on returning. Actually, I've never been checked.

  • It is $900 total on all your belongings added together. not a single item.

It's actually total value of all overseas / duty free item, not just everything in the luggage. Or every returning passenger will have a problem.

  • You need a full tax invoice with your name

  • Have never been asked or checked if I brought an item back into the country that I've claimed gst on
