How Many People Use The Shopping Tab in Google for Price Matching

I just went to buy some bulk dog biscuits online from my usual pet supplies store (the biggest in Australia) and found the price of my dog's usual food had increased yet again to $55. In searching for it via Google and then using the "Shopping" tab I found other online pet stores were selling exactly the same for just over $33. Now, my usual online pet supplies store has a price match policy so I copy and paste the weblink (for the item from the competitor's website) via their chat window to get a price match code. I then get the item at the competitors price.

I was just wondering how aware people are of finding a better price via the Google Shopping tab? When I tell people about the Shopping tab they tell me they did not realise it was there even though it was staring them in the face every time they use Google.

Google shopping tab is ok, it's good to compare and see alternatives at a snap shot rather than going to individual online stores.

Thing is with google shopping, it's highly dependant on product image name and title SEO and usually larger businesses and companies that have a good marketing SEO will appear first, just like the search results for your keywords.

But with electronics I use static ice: https://www.staticice.com.au/

      I use static ice

Doesn't work well for dog biscuits though…

    Quite often.

Always ask for price beat. I even request the strippers to price beat. Cost of living crisis is real

seriously the google shopping tab makes it sooooo easy now to do a quick comparison and its usually quite good at picking up random offers/codes that might apply too!

it can still sometimes get a little confused when theres variations eg samsung galaxy s23 ultra in 256 or 512, or when comparing options (again, like phones) where some sites offer refurbs.

Always, it does not show all stores but it does help. It is nice when it also shows estimated shipping costs.

  • Is there an app where I can paste in a list of URLs of each of my favourite grocery items for both Coles and Woollies and see at a glance which items are cheaper each week? My local shopping centre has both a Coles and a Woollies about 200m apart so I could buy the list of the cheaper items from one supermarket and then walk to the other supermarket to buy the rest.

    • I've just been looking at the Wiselist app https://www.wiselist.app/ and it does a good job of showing the prices of my inputted list of groceries at Coles and Woolies side by side. I've yet to work out how to export the cheaper at Woollies list and then export the list of others at Coles.

    • I have those sort of items in my Amazon bought before or cart and I see when things go on special as Amazon matches . Then I just check which store.
