  • When you say leaking, how is yours leaking? I noticed both mine at home and the one at work leak some times, but only when the cylinder is full - almost like the seal is not working and most of the time only doesn't leak, as the bubbles don't come up high enough.

    • for mine, the second I pressing the button to inject the gas into bottle, I can hear half of the gas gets into the bottle, half just went away. it is not when the bottle internal pressure reached the level.

For $20 more, this includes a cylinder for those thst need it.

I had one of these (after numerous failing Sodastreams) and it was terrible.

The high-pitched squeal it makes, made me prefer the old, buzzing Sodastreams.

Carbonation was fairly low per squeal, too. So we had to listen to that (and upset the dogs) more times, to get the same level of bubbles.

    • As someone very new to this world, what the heck do people recommend?

My preference after a few Sodastreams is Aarke. Any of makers but you must hack and use a large CO2 bottle. Sodastream work on the inkjet printer model save you pay way over the odds for the hardware.

        Check out Kegland for adapters/bottles.

          • @leeroys_dad: Easy to use ? Thanks for the recommendation

@sli: I have Kegland setup too - very easy to use.
I use ex-Coke :) bottle which is 2x larger compared to Sodastream bottles.

@sli: Very easy. Generally use any 600ml, 1.25L, 2L bottle, use the red caps, push-connect the nozzle and shake.

I find it's much bubblier than soda stream, much quicker than stuffing around twisting your bottle onto the sodastream (haven't tried soda stream push connect ones), use you own bottle instead of buying unique bottles, plus it's fun!!!

          • @leeroys_dad: How many times can these DIY tanks carbonate a 1.25 or 2L bottle? We only drink one 2L bottle per week but find our drinks are completely flat before the end of the week as we open them once a day.

@PoorFromOzBargains: It does 5x the amount of sodastream canisters. I've done probably 200L so far and it's not empty.
If you have air in the bottle then you'll lose the carbonation. You should get some 600ml coke bottles and fill them instead, so you continuously open fresh bottles

Not hard to be better quality than a Sodastream.

Very happy with my Aarke - not a piece of plastic junk.

Don't buy from these guys, although they are the official Phillips distributor for the soda related products, their customer service is pathetic. Bought one from them and it was an obvious open box. Contacted their customer support and they insisted it was brand new and the peeled sticker was because of shipping.. ridiculous…..

Also they refused to help when my official Phillips cylinder lasted only 2 bottles….

  • Id love to know if any of you have done the Sparkling water Tap at home ?

  • the unit I received was wobbling on the kitchen counter, not sure why. inserting/screwing in the gas cartridge into the small back compartment is okay. the amount of "fizz" in the water even after longer/more amount of presses was just average. pressing the button itself feels like you are applying more force than the unit may stand over time. with my unit it felt like the cartridge was depleted after a week, but after unscrewing it and screwing it back in it continued to work for another 2 weeks. all in all I did not get the feeling that my unit was working properly so I returned it and went for the original Sodastream (terra)
