Missed out on the last $99 preorder. Another game to the backlog

Damn that's great timing on my part, just going through a full hard mode run on FF7 remake now.

But $99 for the standard edition is pretty nuts.

Probably wait for closer to release date and see if $70-80 is possible

    • I was thinking about doing that but the missus might make me sleep on the couch if I don't preorder!

      • +1

Not sure why the negs, I can totally understand your missus' excitement for this.

If price drops between now and release date, Amazon will automatically drop the price. Even if price dips temporarily along the way.

      • +2

and Amazon doesnt charge until pretty much when it ships! Can always preorder now and if somewhere else has it cheaper, cancel the Amazon preorder with a couple clicks.

I've been watching this for months. It's been $99 for months. Was really hoping to see it drop further.

    • +2

Yeah same, saw this notification and thought it had maybe dropped at Amazon. Looks to be pretty expensive everywhere. :/
Got a $50 Jb card for Christmas so I might just eat the extra $10 and get it from there to pick up and play day one.
(Past experience from Amazon Pre-orders has them sending games out 3-4 days after launch date 😞)

      • +1

from my experience you can get jb to price match amazon for click and collect through live chat :)
just did it recently for Persona 3 Reload and they matched the amazon price so I can now pick it up on release day

        • Oh wow nice. I'll give that a try when I go to order, thanks!

I will buy a PS5 just to play this game assuming it doesnt get terrible reviews

    • +1

I'm not sure you understand how gamer culture works regarding reviews of highly-anticipated games…

Old Angry Joe on Youtube 19/20 times i agree with him - there are a few others but he and his team is a pretty solid

likewise - waiting for console bundle

      hopefully a special edition happens

    • Did you play the first part of the remake?

A lot of fans were mad at the first game haha. I loved it though, even played it multiple times to get the stupid final achievement.

      • +2

I enjoyed the 1st part of the remake played it on PS4

I understand the criticism people have of it though - if you have played the orginal you would know the story now makes zero sence and the next part could be really good or incredibly bad.

        • Yeah it's fair enough. But I think it keeps things fresh and exciting.. otherwise you already know story-wise what is going to happen.

Square Enix just took "remake" very literally haha.

  • Are $69 launch prices still a thing in the PS5 generation? I miss those days.

    • Unfortunately so. Weak AUD and increase in global pricing for AAA games ends up resulting in some pretty expensive new releases. Most games are targeted at 70 USD (or 77 USD with tax). We end up seeing prices like ~110-115 AUD without small price drops like this

    • For the odd third party release, yes. But $99 is the new $69 now that $129 is the old $99.

    • Long gone.

It's either $99-109 for first party games at JB Hi-Fi and $115-125 at EB Games.

    • +1

I wouldn't know because I wait until it's discounted. You should too

    • +1

$79 or $89 launch prices should be considered a bargain or sweet spot these days.

$115 on the Playstation Store for the bundle that also comes with FF7 Remake Intergrade may be a better deal if you don't own and also want to get Remake, or if you were going to buy at this price and never got the Intermission DLC for Remake (since the $15 difference is cheaper than the lowest price the DLC has been)

    • Yep, bought this on my US PSN for this reason. Makes the price much more palatable the fact that you get both games with it

    • Make sure you select the right one if buying there. PS App seems to have the option to buy part 2 on its own or as part of the pack with part 1, and both listings are the same price.

Is this part 2 of 3? They’re really milking the remake aren’t they. Should have been one full game.

    • +1

I mean, yes and no. They're expanding on and increasing the gameplay in each act to compensate. (Midgar traditionally took you what, 7~8hrs in 1997? It's a 30-40hr game now)

Rebirth is 2 Blu-Rays, so it'll be interesting to see how they tackle the world map and how much content is in this one.

      • Yeah that makes sense

    • +1

I prefer they milk it, let them make it bigger, better and longer. I'd rather good things not end too quickly!

    • -1

So you didn't play the first one, then?

      • I did - I bought it thinking it was the full remake. At which point did I say I didn’t?

  • -3

Final Fantasy XVI was excrutiatingly boring cutscene torture. Hope this is nothing like that game.

    • It was highlighted in advance it would have a large amount of cinematics. I didn't mind it personally but I felt the gameplay suffered a bit due to it.

    • +2

They also didn't learn their lesson from FF15 with the side quests (dreadful fetch quests). Only the boss fights made the game playable, everything else was a slog to get through.
