How much downforce will I get this from 2cm spoiler?

    • around 7. To turn even more heads grab some fat zip ties for the spokes.

    • 0.227 / 0.189 g …

  • Will this look good on a model other than white model?

    • +2

Beauty is in the eye of the beer holder. I think it would be fine on the red and probably blue. Probably not on the grey or black ones.

  • Shame about the dimple in the center

  • $359 for a spoiler 🫣. Fashion is expensive 😔

    • wait till you find out intake kit costing 10k, titanium exhausts costing 20k and 25k wheels

      • Glad I still ride my pushbike

    Oh good price. Might bite!

"Make your slow Tesla into a fast Tesla by adding some extra weight."

Something doesn't sound right here but I can't put my finger on it.

      😝

Now if that extra weight came in the form of an extra electric motor…

Your Tesla will be so cool with this spoiler that it can't possibly be hot enough to catch fire.

  • Look like a cool tool!

As they say the best part is no part

Thanks OP, bought 2 for my Lancer GLI 2001 model

    • Nice! You just need some p plates and you'll be ready to smoke unsuspecting GTRs off the line

    • If you got two, you can do the xhibit special, which is to put a spoiler on your spoiler so you can have downforce on your downforce.

      • As long as its got a speaker in the speaker

    • I had a manual 2000 model - brilliant little car!

  • Thanks OP. This will help reduce the drag on my Tesla to 0.01. Should be able to get 10000km from one single charge now!

    Thanks OP, bought 0

The 3 and Y are a little plain looking (trying to be inoffensive I think), IMHO these spoilers really do add to the styling. I fitted one to the wife's white Y as soon as it arrived and I think it looks far better, especially on the lighter coloured cars. I have a M3P so mine had one already.

I'm quite partial to the panda look.

  • Will this work on a Samsung phone?

    • Sure, just be careful driving your phone around, the cops tend to give people tickets for playing with their phone while driving.

      • I got pulled over once for talking on my car.

  • Strapping this to my solar panels

  • Now it's time to buy a model Y

When the smooth (laminar) airflow over the body of the vehicle separates from the body, as it eventually has to at some point at the rear of the vehicle, you want it to separate cleanly, not turbulently. Turbulent separation creates drag which increases the power required, increases fuel consumption, and reduces top speed.

There are some circumstances where you want the smooth airflow to continue to follow the bodyshape, like where the roofline becomes a sloping rear window or tailgate. There are aerodynamic devices for doing that. Shark fins. There are some circumstances where you want the smooth airflow to separate cleanly from the bodyshape. A lip on the trailing edge of the boot can do that. It creates what is called a Kamm tail. Which is the opposite of the empennage on an aircraft - a tail section that smoothly tapers to a point.

If there is any benefit from a "spoiler" like this one it is not in creating downforce but in creating a smooth separation of the airflow at the trailing edge of the boot lid, which decreases drag, increasing battery range.

    • Thanks, especially on a car with the shape of a Model 3/Y a spoiler like this is set up to change the point where air detaches. It may get more range. It may reduce how much crap sticks to the back of the car. But it'll look cool while doing it.

I thought the main reason for a spoiler was to help you head for the correct white model Y at the car park…

  • has it had any UV testing to make sure the resin doesn't go milky in the sun?

    • +1

They don't make any claim to it.

However, I've spent quite a while working in aircraft manufacture & repair and based on the look of the part, the material they claim to use, and the prepreg systems that use it, it'll be UV resistant. It's hardly scientific, I know.

      • @airzone i guess if it's garaged it probably wouldn't be an issue, but i have even had APR carbon parts go milky, and it's just so disappointing after spending so much money. I had to every few months give it a fine cut and polish to get it looking good, but once it starts it just keeps coming back.

        • +1

That sucks. You'd expect a reputable company who was using a prepreg autoclave process would be sorted. Given the shine, it'll have a top-coat of something on it and that's probably where the issue is. Except the top-coat, it's basically the same process that modern aircraft are made from.

It's quite different to all that mystery wet layup stuff you get cheap on aliexpress.

Crappy brand. Mine started peeling after a month buyer beware. Happen to my friends one recently too

    • Carbon fibre peeling, or the spoiler coming off the car?

      • Carbon fibre itself

    • got a photo of peeling? Do you park outside all the time or garage most of time?

      • Garage 90%

        • Curious to see some photos - I’m tempted to sell my hanshow one and get this.

        • If you and your friends bought them thru haloblk au, chuck them an email, send photos of carbon peeling to them and ask for warranty claim. They offer 1year product warranty here in Australia.

    • Any follow up on this? Interested in getting one but wanted to see if it was a haloblk issue.

      • +1

RechieVn never replied any photos with the issue, nor of his friend's spoiler. If in doublt, contact haloblk au, they honour one year warranty anyways.
