Mine broke, did a search and found it available and in stock at my local CW. Walked in to buy in person and tap with my HSBC for additional 2% cashback.

      3000 is "newer", less rubber surfaces which tends to attract soap scum, mould growth

      Considering they are almost the same price, I'd still go with the Smart 4000 because of the neat holder and rubber is more durable (I think).

        After using the 4000 for about two years, the rubber is slightly porous and tended to attract soap scum and mouldy growth. You can clean it, but because its porous its never really clean. Eventually the rubber deteriorated and water ingresses into the device itself and it died. Got the 3000 (while overseas and it had a different model number) about a year and half ago, its all hard plastic at the charging end except for rubber seal in the joint and a small rubber plug/hole. Far easier to clean.

        So no, rubber isn't more durable.

          I have a rubber/Bluetooth Oral-B (not sure which model), but generally, we just clean it after every use and dry it. We've had it for almost 10 years with no issues, but last week we noticed the motor is dying out

          I take my comment back about 4000 being more durable since you have had both :)

            @mirovich: More likely the battery is dying, not the motor.

            • @JimB: I replaced the battery in my 5000 with a $16 NiMH one from eBay, difficult to disassemble but with plastic tools you can do it without damaging the case (after 10 years they stick together good, so it's important to watch someone doing it with the exact same model so you can be forceful on the right places in the right way). Battery has to be de-soldered, and the tabs on the new one fashioned a bit to mount the new one.

              Goes good as new now. You can use plastic grease on the drive cog inside, the smallest dab, if you want it to last another 10 years!

                A bit too much effort on my part. and 10 years is a decent run.

                I think my Pro 1500 which I got for $50 comes with Li-ion.

            @mirovich: The white rubber parts of the casing break down when exposed to UV-B rays.

            For some reason our builder installed a bathroom window made from plastic. It allows the UV in and when mum used to leave her toothbrush on the ledge, the rubber turns into a gooey mess in <6mo.

            Move it off the ledge, and it lasts fine.

            Beware leaving them in the sun (though glass will help)

        my dentist advised me to get the cheapest one with a pressure sensor and a timer - basically what that linked article is suggesting. their RRP is always something insane but i'm fairly sure a 2000 shouldn't cost you much more than $50.

          Yeah, that sounds about right. I can't see a good deal on the 2000 at the moment, best seems to be $95 or so, which makes the 3000 better "value" right now. If you're not in a hurry, setup an alert here for the 2000 and jump on it at ~$50.

          I think that’s the one I have. The main thing I’d recommend is a lithium ion battery. Mine lasts two weeks while my wife lasts a few days at best (older NiMH battery).

        • Yeah this is exactly what I was told. They also told me not to get one of the ultrasonic ones and make sure it has some rotation in the head.

      Between the 1000 and 2000 it's 1000,
      The 2000 and 4000 it's 2000,
      The 4000 and 5000 it's 1000 again.
      Between the 1000 and 5000 it's 4000.

    Does this one use a Ni-cad or Lithium battery? Packaging and description doesn't mention it, so I'm guessing the former?

    I like this one the most because it doesn't have a rubber grip. Much easier to keep mould away.

  • I've used this for a bit over a year. Li battery so it holds charge for longer, great for weekend trips with the travel case. Also less rubber means no mould. Would recommend

    I wish they did better with the model numbers. I currently own the 300 but I don't think the battery life is good and it seems weaker then a previous Oral B I had. Anybody used both as a comparison?

      Thats a NiMh model.

      What you want is a Li-ion model with pressure sensor, anything more is just gimmick.

    Just got from eBay as allowed PPin4

    $9.95 delivery. Online for CWH is click and collect only for me.

      • Never knew about the code, was thinking of cancelling order and just buying instore as they have 16 pack brushes for $32 too.
        Not overly fussed though, it's pretty cheap for asking $ in the 1st place.

        EDIT: just bought through website for CnC as is easier and has the extra brushes, plus saved me $10 in delivery which put towards the OG German brushes.
        Asked to cancel the eBay purchase so there might be another in stock soon for anyone else on eBay.

        There is something smug about being the tightarsed bargain hunter that I am, I will do anything and everything to save every dollar, not because I need to, but I am compulsed to do.

  • Would recommend purely for the pressure control. I had 1 tooth with receding gums so I got this brush to stop me brushing so hard. Was surprising how hard I was brushing originally.

  • do people recommend ultrasonic toothbrush. Or is the electric mechanical ones better

    • I've just ordered the Oral B Genius X Electric Toothbrush, needed the extra features.

    • I was told by my dentist's assistant that rotating is better and to get one with a pressure sensor.

      Tbh I don't actually know the answer myself. But I did what they recommended.

      You could easily have found out if the heads would work with this brush by looking at the brush box. It clearly states it on the box.

      It is not their job to know info like this. Do you really think some low level worker getting paid minimum wage is expected to know about all the product details that the shop sells? It is a very unreasonable expectation.

      Do you also get outraged when the chemist warehouse CEO makes millions while paying peanuts to the workers? Or do you have selective outrage towards low level workers because that makes you feel better?

        When I ordered, there was no info regarding this, none at all, all I wanted was some assistance, not someone who just looked away on their phone.
        I never had my glasses so how was I supposed to read fine print on a on box in a sealed bag?
        Low level worker getting paid minimum wage justifies their inability to interact with customers excuses their behavior?
        You clearly have no idea on the subject, I am not expecting them for product knowledge, I am expecting assistance, but here you are saying people should be shunned because what others get paid?

        I bet you have an answer for everything, but understand nothing.
        People should take pride in their work, no matter how much they get paid. You trying to justify otherwise is just some form of deflection to the reality of things.

          CW one of the last places I expect to get any kind of service, I go there for cheap prices. There is a reason why chemist warehouse prices are so heavily discounted. If you expect to get a service, then I suggest shop somewhere else and pay higher prices :)

              CW is trying to make money while offering a huge discount. This involves hiring people who may not be the best at what they do, allowing them to pay lower wages. It's really simple economics. Take MSY as another example. Have you been there? Lol.

                EDIT, I want to add how rude the check out "person" was.
                I went to the counter, told them I had a CnC order, showed her the SMS and she asked for the barcode, so I clicked on the link that wasn't working before, suddenly gave me a barcode which I promptly showed the girl behind the glass encasement.
                She wasn't even paying attention, she was eyed all over her phone ignoring me.
                It was an awkward 20 odd seconds as my arm was under the case showing her the barcode.
                She suddenly saw my phone then paid attention to me.

                ^^ Did you miss all of this? She asked me a question, when I tried to give her an answer, she ignored me.
                This isn't about her minimum wages or w/e other scenario you try to paint for your own narrative, she was plain and simply rude.
                She is the check out person I am trying to pick up a click and collect order, and she cannot even do that properly.
                So what next, am I supposed to think it's ok because something about MSY?

                Being entitled is one thing, but to try and justify this behavior is a whole new level of, deflection to what is the source of the problem.

      we take the heads off every time to wash them anyway, so its' no extra bother at all

      This is the ozbargain way

    • you can buy head holders or 3D print one if you have access to a printer or a friend. This makes it easier to change and keep them separate

    • Super easy if it’s the standard brush heads. I have a couple cheapo vitality series handles and I sometimes swap with my son’s handle if my battery cuts out mid brush.

      Also… brush heads come with coloured rings to differentiate heads (that way your tooth brush heads won’t get mixed up)!

  • This product, like many others in our era, suffers from the form over function mindset of stripping all physical buttons back to the bare minimum. As a result, it only has one button, rather than the obvious separation into a power button and a function button. This means when you need to power off the brush in order to spit you need either a long press to turn the brush off or press the one button several times to toggle through the various brush modes before it switches off. This is a inconvenient to the user but, on the plus side, it's no doubt brought some orgasmic pleasure to the designer when he sees one button rather than two.
