What to Buy as Gifts for My Niece and Nephew

I am going to visit my 7 yr old niece and 3 year old nephew next week. What should me the uncle buy them as gifts? I have no idea what is popular right now. Books, Toys ? Which ones and where to buy. Preferably within $100.

Lego and Duplo are generally safe bets. Magnetic tiles have been pretty popular recently.

Musical toys or toys that make noise are a good option if you hate the parents.

Also, you could also ask the parents for suggestions.

    • My nephew loved magnetic tiles so that's a good one.

I've gifted musical toys to friend's kids not because I hate parents, but we do enjoy music ourselves and that way inclined 😉

      • Those toys are fine as long as the parents know to expect them.

Why don't you ask their parents.

I would give them money and they can buy what they prefer.Instead of buy something not suit.

3 year olds are renowned for their ability to be able to shop for what they want

I'd lend them money with a high interest rate.

  • Tin drum & a bugle

    • You could also fit a couple recorders and slide whistles in the budget

    VB longnecks.

I'd talk to your sibling, learning simple stuff about what they're into right now will make it a lot easier. And it keeps you out of trouble. Either that or just really good books, IMO those never go out of style.

Got to agree ihfree is on the money with lego and duplo. Kmart tends to have really good kids toys IMO and as others have suggesteda good book is always great.

I've also always thought the stem/kiwico boxes looked fun, but I've never actually tried them myself but might be worth a go.

It depends a bit what they're into, but my kids (similar age) have got a lot of use out of magnetic tiles, duplo and just starting to get into Lego.

Another option might be books? Ahn Do has written some great ones for the 7ish age group (Hot Dog probably for that age, possibly ninja kid). Julia Donaldson has some great picture books for the 3yo age (Snail and the whale, Gruffalo, Tabby McTat). Lots of other good options as well.

  • Depends what they already have and are into to an extent. Lego or duplo is probably a safe bet for the 3yo, less so for the 7yo as by then they are either often a Lego kid or not.

3yo wooden train tracks or other train kits (try to go for something compatible with what they have already or can be built on, most the wooden ones are compatible across brands, Thomas changes track gauge in different series) magnetic tiles, kids digital camera, bath crayons/paint. Trucks of various kinds are likely to make you popular with the kid, less so win the parents who will have to garage said trucks, garbage trucks, diggers, bulldozers etc are generally pretty popular.

7yo kids smart watch, squish mallows, craft kits, hair accessories, stationery from smiggle or similar, kids toiletries etc from brands like all kinds

Either - puzzles 3yo 9-40ish pieces 7yo >100pieces, licensed tshirts with their favourite characters or brands, decent water bottles or lunch boxes in their favourite colours/characters/themes, books, scooters (as appropriate to age)

  • My 7 year old and her friends are into Bitzee… Basically super charged upgraded tamagotchis.
