first time poster.

i paid full price of 42$ a week ago.

I've only heard good things about aussie company Bowden and was recommended this product by others

Not the cheapest it's been but would still vouch for the product and the current price at the moment

    • If you compare 1x Bowden's with 1x Kmart then absolutely. The comparisons are to do with what you can get in Kmart towels for the price plus the added benefit of being able to use different towels on different areas of the car to avoid marring due to cross contamination.

  • this towel sucks, not in a good way. my repco or super cheap one is thicker, bigger, and does a way better job. i can wipe my car without wringing out the water with the store brand towel.

this big green sucker i need to wring out twice maybe 3 times. i wouldn't buy again, and don't recommend it.

  • I don't worry too much about drying my car after washing lol as I would just think of it sitting in the rain in the next few days. The rainwater is much worse than the tap water.

    • Water spots have entered the chat

  • What is this, a magic cloth that makes cleaning easier lol. HI mum, I also sold the cow for magic beans.

    • You don’t understand car detailing.

OP if you can be bothered and still have the receipt go buy the $26 one and refund with the $42 receipt. I think sca also has a price protection for members in form of credit

I thought Shammy Chamois was the best to get water off cars, not that I really used them yes maybe when car was newer.
When I washed car I never really dried it the sun would.
But I had to be quick to get the soapy water off otherwise it be streaked. So just washed car im sections.
Recently was bit busy and neglected the car for a bit.
The car is a bit older so not caring as much. But it was a sunny day not ideal for doing the car I had this stuff that was for washing car and is polish as well.
And it said I had to not let it dry in or would need to apply again to wipe off water with a soft towel.

I never really had a towel available at the time but I remember getting a freebie a while back which was a towel in a bag and it felt soft so used it.
Caused it was first time use it had never had a wash and I did find little specs of the red towel coming off when using it.
It got better and god know maybe me using this towel was doing more harm than good.
I never seen anything to show crap this is scratching the paint work.
It was from a company called https://gtradial.com.au/ as I said the towel was given to me maybe it was not for cars just a beach towel but to me felt soft enough and used it.
If never really soaked up water well but was ok as had nothing else at time.

I do know when I had car years back when newer I took it to get service from the dealer and my came back with bonnet swirling all over it was was pretty annoyed but nothing was ever done, they must have had someone clean the car who had little experience. It was all part of the service from then on I said I did not want the car washed etc. obviously this was ages ago now.

But looking at that Kmart ones posted about does look a good buy I may grab some of them, the towel I used at the time did ok but maybe not suited to wiping the water off car. The product I used to wash car come with clothes to wipe in the end to give it a Polish as was built into the stuff I washed it with.
Not sure if it’s still a think car wash with polishing included but when I was done it did look nice.
But then anything would have as it was a right mess prior.

  • I'd highly recommend the gyeon silk or any of "the rag companys" drying towels over this. The Bowden's is ok and definitely better than a chamois but it's not the greatest drying towel in my experiences

The gauntlet by TRC is my go to at the moment - does an entire 4x4 easily

    • Agreed, this went in the trash after I got a gyeon silk. I think Bowdens has a new twisted loop drying towel which is meant to be pretty good

      • Actually the Twisted Sucker Pro is quite a bit better than the Gyeon Silk.

I also have a few Rag Company towels and I find this even beats them.

        • Cool, will check it out!

There is some OTT rag company towel I was looking at supposed to be absolutely ridiculous absorption think it was "the 1500"

Look this product is o.kay but it's not amazing. For similar price I've had a much better experience with Nv/Nu Supercell towel that costs $28.50 which you can get from waxitcarcare
I'm not sponsored or anything but I detail my car as a hobby and the supercell is one of the best I've tried. This green sucker is way too overhyped and doesn't absorb all too well (relatively) to be honest

I use a lot of Bowden's Own products especially the wheely clean, afterglow and the car wash stuff, they're good value when on sale and help support local businesses

Also have the big green sucker which is actually Korean made, which I've used many times and wash with their microfibre wash and it's holding up well

Having said all that I've recently bought some thick 1200gsm microfibre towels from AliExpress which dries just as well on first use, and I could get two of them for less than half of the discounted price so even if they only last half as long I'm still ahead

  • As others have said, twisted pro has better drying abilities. Have both and other than the fact its bigger than the big green sucker (some people may not like that) its better in every way.

    • its bigger than the big green sucker (some people may not like that)

Agree, size counts. The BGS is as big as I want to use, esp when it's approaching its drying limit.

People have mentioned superior products at around the same price and I appreciate their comments. I'll give them a whirl when the BGS is past its use-by date.

  • 40 bucks cloth. No thanks!

  • I buy Costco/Kirkland micro fiber towels they are pretty high gsm and are about 1.5 each on special at Costco or Amazon etc.
I use 2-3 each time I was my car. Leave them in a big pile and wash them once a year at a laundromat. If they fall on the floor, Touch a bit of grease it’s straight in a pile that I use in the engine bay and on my wheels.
I use spray wax which needs some water for lubrication the first towel usually spreads that around and follow up is for buffing. I can’t see the value in a 40 dollar towel when you could buy a 25-30 micro fiber towels.

    • It's a ~$27 towel for removing moisture quickly in order to limit water marks. Obviously the BGS is far from the only way of achieving that but it's one of the more efficient imo. Used to use multiple chamois but they aren't in the race against drying cloths like these.

The BGS - and other similar drying cloths mentioned on this deal - absorbs plenty of water and is about the right size to cover the average vehicle in one pass - no/minimal wringing. The size and thickness is in the sweet spot for me. It's not so large that it's unweildly to use or needs to be folded and it's not so small that you have to constantly swap cloths or wring out like a chamois. Depending on the state of your vehicle's suface, the longer water droplets stay on your 'paint' the more chance there is of water marks (easily fixed when you do a full wash and 'wax').

I also have Costco microfibre cloths and they aren't in the same ballpark as far as drying is concerned. Good for drying/cleaning smaller areas which accumulate dirt like door sills and grills, bumber bars etc. My BGS NEVER goes near those areas.

Bottom line is use whatever works for you.

  • Would this towel be suitable for my cleaner to use on my lambo?
