Phone Trade in Alternative

If one decides to not go ahead with the first trade in provider (provider1)(after having proceeded with the pre-order). Can they use same device to trade in with a different provider (provider2) for a higher trade in value? Then purchase new device, to then sell on and use the funds to offset the penalty for the non-returned item from trade in provider 1.

    What you talkin bout Willis

    • Point 1:
Get a trade in value with for eg asurion.
      Proceed with the pre order.
One then has a new phone discounted by the trade in value.

Somehow decide to not send device in.

Get charged by asurion for device non return.

      Point 2:

Trade in the device with jb for eg as they're offering higher trade in.
Purchase second device and then sell on.
Use funds from above to offset non return fee from point 1 above.

      • Its this part that has some uncertainty:

Purchase second device and then sell on.

I.e. what margin are you planning to get…

  • Sounds overly complicated.

It will really depend on the terms of the first trade in provider. There are plenty of samsung related threads on Ozb that discuss the fees for not returning the trade in device.

Sure, assuming provider1 T&Cs allow you to not go through with the trade in. You might also end up black listed by them, but YOLO!

That's a really convoluted arbitrage deal. Why not just cancel your pre-order?

Order a fake S23ultra from the dark net for $79.
Trade it towards the S24u and keep fingers crossed that return clark has no brain….

  • Yes, I've done it with Samsung Trade In (Asurion) to take advantage of trade in bonuses. I didn't send the device back and was charged the $30 non return fee and instead sold it to Mobile Monster for a better trade in value.

    • Thanks for the reply. Would you mind sharing the value of the trade in please? Tx.

      • For the Asurion trade in I stated that my phone was damaged when it wasn't (such that the trade in value was only $1, and only $1 would be held on my card). I traded in my phone to Mobile Monster for $490 which was a couple hundred more than what Asurion would give.
