That’s an amazing deal. I give them two games worth $10 each and get TLOU2 remastered for ‘free’!

  • +5

It's a great game if you're a fan of the series. Some may say a remaster was never needed, and they may have a point, but I was happy to pay the $15 upgrade and am loving it.

  • +5

If you have it on PS4 then the upgrade is $15.

    • Still don't know how Sony decided on the price 🤷🏼‍♂️

    • Yeah, or you can trade in your physical copy of the PS4 edition to EB and get $20, then do this deal and only end up paying $10, and you get a physical copy which is worth more to trade/resell later. IMO this deal is still worth it even if you're an existing owner.

Managed to get a copy of the list of eligible games.

Couple more JB 2 for $30's on the list.
      Demon Turf XSX

        Gollum as well

        • I can't see Gollum on the eligible trade list though?

  • +3

Prince of Persia, Mario vs Donkey Kong and Princess Peach: Showtime are also apart of this deal.

After 3 years, Sony's best first party studio finally finished remastering all its PS4 titles. Still the same game and graphics engine. Honestly, 3 years for this? Not even keen to pay for the $15 upgrade.

Used to highly regard Naughty Dog… but this repeated milking customers with the same titles over and over again is disappointing. I'd rather wait for the eventual PC version.

    • +1

There's only been 2 actual game releases in the series but there are like 6 different versions of the 2 games, are they going to do another $15 upgrade for the PS5 Pro? or will they do a free update which they could've done for this version.

      • +5

The game released over 3 and a half years ago and received a free 60fps PS5 patch.

People who bought that game got what they paid for and more.

This should never be free. It has updated visuals, really good DualSense support, director commentary for the entire game, unreleased development levels also with optional commentary, a full making of documentary and a brand new game mode.

Anyone that thinks that should be free should offer to work overtime at their job, free for 6 months.

        • -1

Only Naughty Dog is doing this on their PS4 titles. Uncharted 4, The Last of Us (Part 1) and now The Last of Us (Part 2). Updated visuals, based on DigitalFoundry's review, shows that it is basically the same graphics engine with minor cleanup (and higher resolution assets in fidelity mode). No FSR, no ray tracing. Those extra bits are there is somewhat sugarcoat the PS5 version price. How about the failed promise on multi player? Oh, because Bungie evaluated it and indicated if Naughty Dog releases it, Naughty Dog will need to spend years to maintain and update it.

The reality is that this remastered version is needed so that it will have at least the same level of quality of life improvement of the eventual PC version. That's the frustration bit. So for owners of PS4 Naughty Dog games, I need to buy at least 2 upgrades and Part 1 remake to get PS5 quality of life improvement for those 3 titles.

Anyway, it is more about having the number 1 first party game studio working on re-tweaking old games for the last 3 years. Then, release some rumour leaks to trick people into thinking Naughty Dog already started working on the next title. If that next title is Part 3, then we know Naughty Dog hasn't actually started working on it.

@netsurfer: "So for owners of PS4 Naughty Dog games, I need to buy at least 2 upgrades and Part 1 remake to get PS5 quality of life improvement for those 3 titles"

If you want the PC experience for less, just wait for the remasters / remakes before you buy them. Otherwise, you've had 3 years you could have been playing Part 2, probably got your money's worth.

Naughty Dog have said before they use these as a way to get familiar with developing for the newer systems as well, if they hadn't remastered Part 1 for PS4, Uncharted 4 might not have been as polished as it was.

            • @McFodder: In reality, the chance of me re-playing those games completely again is low. It pretty much comes down to if I do decided to revisit parts of the game on PS5, to get the quality of life improvement (mainly the fast loading), it is better to get the PS5 upgrade.

if they hadn't remastered Part 1 for PS4, Uncharted 4 might not have been as polished as it was

Uncharted 4 uses a totally different engine. Part 1 remastered for PS4 was just a quick job. As I mentioned before, not seeing any major enhancement in Part 2 remastered, so it feels more like a minor cleanup, re-compile the code to work better with SSD. There is zero hint or trace of what Naughty Dog's proper PS5 from the ground up game engine will bring. With Uncharted 4, if you want 4K/60fps, buying the PS5 version or the PS5 upgrade is the only path. I guess the free movie ticket initially for the upgrade sweeten the deal.

Digital Foundry team members feel calling this game The Last of Us 2 Director's Cut would be better / more appropriate. If a game studio really took 3 years to come up with this kind of "remaster", it would be a real joke. We know Naughty Dog canned the multi-player and this is just to salvage a bit and bring Part 2 inline with the other 2 titles so it has PS5 SSD quality of life improvement. The multi-player was hyped up for years and the end result is a disappointment.

The only good thing is that Naughty Dog is finally moving on and doing a proper PS5 game.

        • The only issue is the misleading "remastered". There is no remaster whatsoever here. Game got few minor adjustments that need a microscope to see it. The real remaster was from the first TLOU coming from PS3 to PS4.

  • +3

Why is Last of Us Part 1 PS5 reskin still really expensive even though it's been more than 12 months since it launched? I'm guessing the TV show has a lot to do with it? I'm literally waiting for it to appear on the PlayStation subscription service at this point.

    • +2

Nintendo have their first party Switch launch games that are 7 years old at full price. All of their games remain full price for the life of their systems. They also have remastered and re-released more games than any other developer.

Yet Sony are suddenly the bad guy.

      • +1

Half of Nintendo's full-price titles are just ports of WiiU games, as well.

      Worst comment ever made 😆

  • So EB won't balk if I turn up with two copies of Dying Light 2 to trade? If anyone has done/does it, could you confirm?

    • +3

Used 2 x copies of Gollum (xsx) with no issue

    • +1

I did across 2 occasions, I traded 4 copies of Dying Light 2 each time. The first time for TLOU2 and Prince of Persia, and the second time for Princess Peach and Mario vs Donkey Kong. No issues whatsoever.

  • EB in with the scam

How is it a scam? lol

      • Remastered looks the same as the standard edition

if anything, ozbargain is the one scamming here with the 2 for $30 JB deal

you don't understand how ozbargin works do you??

Grab 2x LOTR Gollum from JB (worst rated game of 2023) for $30

      • HAHAHA this

He must be new here lol

I have played this "bad game", 2.5 times now (halfway through the third playthrough at the moment), as it is a great game, that for me it is far more compelling than the first (which I have also played 3 times). I find the primary characters in this to just be more relatable than the "parental" bond in the first game. But I guess due to the lack of attachment to that bond, I was never going to have an issue with the treatment of that character.

    • I have just swapped two games that were not in my collection. Am I in trouble? lol

Show me on the doll where Abby's muscles hurt you.

I copped the deal and enjoying the survival mode! I might go back and play the story again…at some point.

  • Just confirming I was able to trade in an xbox one game (witcher 3) which had trade-in value of $16. Needed manger approval though.

As an aside, I have multiple copies of that game (pc, switch and xbox) but never played fully.

  • Tried to trade in FIFA 22 and 23. On the list however they didn't accept FIFA 22 said list was out dated showed up as $4 trade in. Time to sort the other junk games I have.

Edit: I'm an idiot on my rush to work this morning I checked FIFA 22 was on the list but Nintendo switch version I had Xbox version. Disregard my comment above. List is accurate af, my brain less accurate.

  • Tip: make sure your local actually has copies of tlou2 before buying your shitty JB hi fi games, otherwise you'll end up stuck with 2x copies of dying light

    • Not if you grab one Dying Light and one Gollum, like I did! smart ;) lol. And yeah I alllmost got stuck with em because the nearest EB I went to had literally just sold their last copy of TLOU pt 2, after I'd checked like 5 mins beforehand, so then had to drive to another one where they had two left, and almost missed that cos I wasn't thinking about how close to closing time it was and what the traffic would be, but just made it hah. But yeh JB are selling out of some of the tradeable games and EB are sellin out of TLOU; also I can't imagine they won't update the trade-in list soon as copies of Gollum start piling up out back haha. I imagine you can just return the Dying Lights to JBhifi at least?

    • Went to the first store and they didn't have it. Second had it.

  • +1

    Just got the deal:

Knights PS5 ($9 from a past eb deal)
KOF XBSX ($14 from Amazon during the black friday).

    $23 final cost.

  • +2

Got a pre-order for Princess Peach: Superstar!
$30 for a Nintendo-published game on day one, yes please!

    • Did they update your preorder for this? it now says free after 2x trades

      • It was already free. The $30 refers to the two games I bought from JB Hi-Fi just to trade in.

  • +3

Just did this deal. Walked to JB and got 4x Dying Light 2 for PS5 for $60, then walked to EB next door and traded them in for a copy of The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered and Princess Peach Superstar’s preorder. Thanks OP!

    • +1

Did the same and for Prince of Persia and Mario vs Donkey Kong!

      • I was tempted to go for mario vs donkey kong also as i'm a switch collector, but budget said no :/ I'm sure i can always pick the deal up on that another time.

  • +4

Just picked mine up, so good to get rid of 2 trash games but why hell does it take the staff so long for these deals. 15mins, and i was the only one in the store. I always get the person that has never heard of the deal and cant work it out

    • +1

Unbelievable how often it happens. The staff at EB Games are always unaware of any deal and get lost doing their job.

  • +3

Bought 8 games at Jb 2 for 30. Traded in for Last of us 2, peach showtime, mario vs donkey kong and POP at no extra cost. 2024 gaming sorted.

    • Did you decide on prince of Persia on switch or ps5?

      • +1

Switch. I heard its great. For cssual platformers i prefer switch.
