Anyone on or Was on Coles Car Insurance?

Hi, I am looking to move from Coles Insurance to Budget Direct.

Budget Direct is asking for a no claim discount but Coles doesn't seem to have any? Wondering how did you guys deal with this, since rating 1 and 6 is really different.

Don't you just declare that you haven't made any claims in the last 5 years?

You can't lie. They know the truth or will investigate the truth in the event of a claim.

  • they asked for no claim rating too

  • It is the number of years you have not made an at-fault claim.
See Budget Directs website for more information: https://www.budgetdirect.com.au/car-insurance/car-insurance-…

(Ratings start at 6 and decrease for every consecutive year you don’t make a claim; the lower your rating, the bigger your discount.)

  • I've heard from a couple (2) panel beaters that Budget are the worst when you make a claim.
The example given is that they'll check whether the tires had enough tread, and if not try to weasel out of the claim - saying they wouldn't have insured you in the first place if that was disclosed.
I don't know how true this is, but I did hear it a couple of times …

  • I avoid budget direct solely due to their terrible ads, have never even checked pricing or coverage with them.

What did they say when you called them and asked?

  • Budget Direct have been dearer than Coles for us last 3 years in a row.

Premium increases have been minimal … and so far fair against the rest.

Check 3-4 each renewal time, so far, so good.

But as for NCB, I do not look at different ratings.

Make sure you check the PDS properly. I think it is Budget Direct that will not cover unlisted household members. So if you’ve got a P plater in the house they need to be listed to be covered, even if they only drive the car once. This may increase the premiums. Many other companies will cover (with additional excess) infrequent drivers from the same household.
