Recommend a Laptop? (work purpose mostly)

Hey guys I haven't bought a laptop in a really long time and I need to get 2 laptops for relatives. Anyone recommend a good models to get?

Mostly gonna be used for work purposes i.e MYOB, Excel etc. and Numpad is a must! :)
Not looking for a low spec model but at least decent price/performance ratio.

I saw the Samsung NP350V5C-S02AU which looks alright or the Toshiba PSPKBA-05F00U But looks a bit pricey (atm sub 1K prices) considering the past deals on them.

  • Shop around ; i got the Samsung np550p5c-s02au for $930, with a bit of pricematching , retails well over 1k.

probably overly excessive for you uses (being i7 with a 650M) but samsung laptops are pretty solid.

  • Really depends on the ratio of size/wieght and large screen/keyboard. Performance wise anything with an i3 or better will do just fine. I recently bought a Toshiba i3, 14", 7670m (you probably don't need this) for $550. Very happy with it.

  • Check www.catchoftheday.com.au. They are running a laptop special for 24 hours.

I have bought from them before with no dramas. Had to claim warranty when my DVD drive died. Again, no issues. They got it replaced in less than a week.

  • If numpad is a must, why not just get one of those usb numpads? They will expand your choices to much more.

  • -3

MacBook Air. If you absolutely need a number pad I suggest getting an external one.

  • Integrated numpad comes on a lot of the 15" models.
Look at the Lenovo E530's perhaps, the $629 model with coupon is quite well specced, upgrade the screen res for $10 and you've got a very decent work laptop for $639.

  • Hmm thanks for the comments guys, I'll have a look around, I'll try to use the fact I need to buy two laptops to try push the price further down.

  • Whoops wrong tab.. just ignore me
