Betrayal at Baldurs Gate, Betrayal at House on the Hill, D&D the Yawning Portal $15 Each (RRP $75) + Del ($0 in-Store) @ Toymate

1180

Toymate have a board game sale on at the moment.
I saw this ticketed in store but I missed out, however it has become available online.
Low stock, but I was successfully able to price match with JB HiFi via their live chat.
Steal of a price IMO.

Links for the other games below, enjoy!

I love Betrayal at the house on the hill, it's such a unique game with all the different scenarios. $15 is a steal for the amount of replay-ability that game has

    • I thought so too!

      • +1

thanks for posting this, I have the original game but picking up the baldur's gate version. $15 is a steal

        • You're welcome!

  • +2

I've been seeing this come up in board game facebook groups recently, but it wasn't available online!

    • As soon as I saw the ticket in store and it was OOS all I wanted was to get my hands on it for the price haha

      • Price matched! The JB team member was surprised at the popularity of the game, saying that he'd already been asked to match it today

        • +8

They said something to me along the lines of "Don't go telling anyone, that's a great price!".
So, naturally, I came here and did just that

          • +1

@InsertCrow: Same, I price matched with JB and said something the lines of, "this product is popular today haha". Anyways, thanks for sharing the deal Crow!

          • +2

@InsertCrow: Why am I not surprised you went and shared our cheeky deal I did for you šŸ˜…šŸ¤—

            Sold out now šŸ˜‚

            Enjoy everyone!

  • +4

    Thanks OP!
Did an OzBargain and bought all 3!

  • +1

    good and cheap

  • +2

Flat rate shipping $11.95, no option to click and collect. Should be in the title.

    Great deal.

Also more cheap stuff on their sale page.

  • +1

Great deal! I was able to get JB Hifi to match, so if you have time do that so the stock stretches further for other Ozbargainers!

    • Glad to hear, enjoy!

  • Thanks Op. Got all 3. My wife has been playing the original Baldurs Gate PC game. Not sure if this is related, but if it is, I am sure she will enjoy it :)

    • +2

It's Betrayal at House on the Hill with a Baldur's Gate skin and twist to it. I find Betrayal to be a fun game, YMMV of course, but it's a great little game.

      • If I had to choose one of the two games, which one would you recommend @wednesdayfaye. I haven't played either

        • +1

Betrayal at House on the Hill. Baldurs Gate version is nice and all (and it is more than reskin, there are a few different mechanics to make it different), but the OG is OG

    • Love to hear it, have fun!

  • +1

thanks, went to look for some at the closest toymate after seeing this on the various fb groups but had already been cleaned out.

  • +1

Got JB hifi to price match.

  • +1

Betrayal is awesome fun. I bought it yeeeaaars ago at a Con but never gave it the time of day as the difficulty seemed too steep. I eventually busted it out one day and was shocked at how interesting each playthrough is with no two ever really being the same. BG3 fans should definitely get on this.

  • Awesome. Thank you. Got all 3

    • Welcome, enjoy!

  • This looks good for $9: Telestration Upside-Drawn

    • Looks like there're lots of stuff for younger kids and these three games the OP listed.

  • +2

    Also pricematched at JB!

  • Both Betrayals are now OOS

  • +6

Got JBHiFi to match via online chat. You may still be able to get them approved before JB's head office gives instruction to decline due to ToyMate selling out.

The customer service rep I spoke to told me they've done so many price match of the three games online today that he/she has memorised the names of the games (and being aware of OzBargain). The rep was very open and willing to help.

    • +8

"Hey do you price match Toymate"
      "…Which board game is it?"
"How did you know it was a board game?"

    • +2

      You're welcome šŸ™ƒ

      • +1

        šŸ˜‰

    • Thanks for your comment. I kinda gave up when the first one was OOS. I looked at the queue at JB and thought it was too long. After I read your comment I thought, why not nothing to lose. The CSO I got was very nice and did it straight away even after all the other comments saying that they got knocked back. I guess it really depends on who you get.

  • +1

JB Hi-Fi online chat has sadly advised they cannot match Betrayal at Baldur's Gate anymore as it is out of stock at Toy Mate now.
They did match Yawning Portal for me but no betrayals on the horizon here.

    • +1

I've tried 3 separate times to get Yawning Portal price matched and have been unsuccessful as they "cannot confirm stock". I must be getting unlucky lmao

      • Maybe they mean it's not in stock at your closest store? It still shows available to order online from Toymate for me.

      • +1

Both Betrayals are OOS mate, that'll be why it cant be done šŸ™ƒ

        • +2

Yawning Portal was still in stock when I was requesting :/ Could be a location thing.

          • @declancoyle: Yeah man! Toymate website was having issues and showing add to cart on main search page but no stock on item page.

Sold out so fast! D&D is out too. Sorry!

          • @declancoyle: Can only assume it was location as the issue.

  • +5

Bugger, JB online chat wouldn't price match as now out of stock. :(

  • +4

I was able to price match all 3 just now. No C&C though unless I want to drive a few hours away. Was able to use gift cards and postage was cheaper. I got lucky. My CSO must be a board game fan. :D

  • Marion, SA toymate had plenty of stock left

    • I was tempted to go there first but didn't want the wasted trip as there was none in Colonnades. Good to know though!

  • Thanks OP. Picked up all three from Nunawading Vic. bucketload of stock left.

  • If anyone is picking one up, I would be grateful if they could get an extra one to send at all, please?

I wonder if we can call the store to send?

  • +1

Picked em up at the Auburn store. Plenty of stock left.

    • Yep, Auburn NSW had a lot of copies of each.

    • Auburn sold out on Betrayal at Baldurs Gate for anyone else interested, dont know about the other two.

      • All out of all of them

  • +1

I've just realised Betrayal at Baldurs Gate is Betrayal at House on the Hill in disguise!

  • I'm into board games but never played DnD (keen to try it) or Baldur's gate online.

My group mainly play Catan, Saboteur Secret Hitler etc.

Which one of the betrayal games is better or the one to get (apparentally similar just theme but a twist?) and would the D&D board game be worth getting for me?

    • +2

Betrayal at House on the Hill would probably be a good fit for your group, given the games you list are well made but mechanically pretty accessible (not a criticism; you've really got to have the right personnel for games of a certain 'weight'). I'd probably go with the original, because then none of your play group need any D&D context (the original version is just common horror tropes anyone would be able to follow).

      • +1

Thank you, very helpful! and yep agreed I've been trying to get them into more mechanically complex games but they have low attention span to follow instructions

  • missed out. JB HIFI denied price match as TM out of stock.

  • -2

JB wouldn't price match as they can't see stock levels online. I said what if I came in store and phoned ToyMate to check stock with them listening on the call and they said no.

My closest Toymate (Cannington WA) has stock of both Betrayals (I have put on hold) but had wanted to go to JB as they were closer and can get discounted gift cards for them.

JB price match policy is crap.

  • +1

all out of stock, would people hold off next time so we can price match at jb?

  • Tried price matching with JB and after some chat, was eventually told that they were instructed to not price match (was told irrespective of stock). Your mileage may vary in person.

  • +2

Toymate Bankstown had a lot left.

    • When I had left the store this morning at 9.30am, there were only two copies left of Betrayal at Baldurs Gate. The other two had plenty of stock left though, more than 40 each.

  • +2

Toymate Blacktown had heaps of Betrayal at House on the Hill at closing time today (Wednesday).
Only a few copies of Betrayal at Baldur's Gate left.
No copies of Yawning Portal when I was there.

They also have 3x different Cluedo one-shot boxes on sale for $8 each.

    • +1

Thank you for this. I just bought both Betrayals. Still lots of House on the Hill and a few of Baldur's Gate left still this morning.

  • +1

    Awesome deal. Thanks OP
Just picked up one of each from their Joondalup, WA store. There were at least 30 of each left on shelf. Heaps

  • +2

Were at least 10 of each at Cannington, WA store at 9:15am this morning

  • +2

Plenty at Castle Hill as well

    • +1

Around 5 copies of Yawning portal and 1 copy of House on the Hill left at Castle Hill at 11am today, that I could see.

  • Anyone want to pick both up if they go into store please?

    Cheers
    Jake

  • +2

Just picked a couple up from the Innaloo WA store tonight. Still a bunch on the shelves.

  • +2

Heaps available of all 3 at Logan hyperdome

    • Thanks. Wish their website was a bit better. Would have gone there instead of price matching JB. Wonder how the stock levels are at Garden City.

      • Not sure on your location from the store but you can always call before you head there?

        • -1

And talk to real people? No thanks.

Seriously though, just felt like a bit of a pain to have to call them up. A store this big should have some sort of basic inventory built into their website surely.

          • @ozbs25: I get it, there was a store I know existed that's not even listed on their website

    • Has anyone been in the Garden City store?

      • The toymate at garden city is still selling for $15 as at today.
        Probably about 100 boxes.

        • They must have added stock at some stage. I went there a while ago and I didn't see any.
