ALDI Mobile Family Plan

If I purchase a 2 user family plan for my kids, can I still manage the account, even though I don't have one of the sims? Also, would it be possible to suspend their data usage temporarily?

  • What's your main motive OP ??
    1. to cut of kids from internet (permanently or occasionally??), and have them access to calls, sms only ??
    2. You need more data for yourself, so get kids data for yourself ??

If it is 2nd one, then I'd personally suggest you take another service, dont be stuck on family plans, they are very low value in my personal opinion. You can look at like Boost, Coles mobile, Lyca, Vodafone, Lebara etc ? yearly or 6 month plan they all are affordable and give plenty of data.

If it is 1st one, honestly suggest you just buy them a sim plan that has no data, or very low data (say like dodo kinda plan configs)

Also how old are your kids?? you reckon they are dumb (tech wise) ? or pretty smart tech wise?? if dumb then you can also setup data limit on their phone settings.

    • They're teenagers, so would certainly know how to turn the data on! They're currently on Boost, and just managed to spread they're data over 12 months. I'm attracted to the Aldi option to have better control over their data, despite the lesser coverage. I don't know of any other provider that has that feature.

    • Aldi Family Plan has an 'Owner' and 'Users'. One mobile # must be the Owner.
    • Data limits can only be set per-User for 0 (no data) - 999 (unlimited) GB. No way to limit Owner.
    • Cost recently jumped from $80 (80GB shared data) to $95 (100GB) per 30 days.
    • Unused shared data rolls over to the next month automatically so the family can have a "big month" every so often without cost.
    • Auto recharge "exists" but "sucks". It fails at least once a year, and when it does you don't find out till the mobile service shuts off. ALDImobile Support closes tickets reporting this problem without acknowledging or fixing it.

Overall keeping the mobile costs for a family of 4 under $100/month is worth the hassle of ensuring the recharge works IMHO.
