Advice for Scrambled Analog Signal on Capture Card

I recently bought a Hauppauge WinTV-HVR capture card to convert some old family VHS tapes to digital. Tested the VCR on the TV and it works fine. Have connected the VCR to the new capture card using RCA to S-Video and I get a scrambled image as shown here: https://imgur.com/a/8AKqx7L

I've tried fiddling with different PAL/NTSC options without success (although I don't really know what I'm doing). Im hoping someone from the community can offer some advice on what to do or point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance.

rca to svideo is the problem, it will only work with an active adapter. maybe something like https://www.svideo.com/videodecoder.html

I have had your exact issue, with old Hauppauge and an expensive vcr at the time, i used it to copy old family videos also.

    • Thanks for your reply and the helpful information. Did you end up getting an active adaptor or use another cable type?

Is the link that you sent a recommended one or just an example of the type to look for? I was surprised by the $199 price tag. 😵

They are extremely hard to find these days, i think back in the day it cost about $50.

I used an adapter like that one.

        • Thankyou

        • Would it work and be easier/cheaper to look for a VCR with S-video out do you think?

My local library has the equipment and software to convert VHS to digital for free.
