Rear Windscreen Rubber Seal Came Away. Fix Options? (Toyota Aurion 2012)

Hey everyone,

Was high pressure washing the windscreen whilst washing and noticed that the seal above the rear windscreen had come away.
Half had torn off, what would be the easiest way to fix this. Would it require windscreen to be removed for a new seal to be put on?

Anyone had any experience with this?

Cheers

I think you answered your own question, Iā€™d go to an independent windscreen installer, not the big name companies, and get a quote.

A windscreen service would be able to fix it fairly cheaply and you should have it done right. I agree with Stewardo, I've found the small independent guys that have been in business forever good for little fix jobs. A large chain company quoted me a stupid amount to replace a windscreen on my old Camry, whereas a small guy repaired it for like $80 and it lasted until I sold it and got RWC.

I doubt it would be the full seal and probably wouldn't need the glass to be removed if it just fell off - I'm not familiar with the Aurion but its probably like a cover piece over the top to keep crap and moisture out and prevent the windscreen getting damaged. There would be sealant adhesive under the glass around where it sits on the edge that hopefully is in tact. The back windscreen on my ute doesn't even have a cover on the glass edge.

On another note, what sized pressure washer? the lower grade domestic ones are okay, you are not supposed to use a super high pressure washer on a car…. it could damage a lot of things including the paint. Maybe for mud on a 4x4 after off roading or sand used properly on some parts. Good ole elbow grease, microfibre mits, and a hose works fine for most daily driving.

Whilst the paint isn't as good as on a car, my father used his to wash his ride on mower / deck after use and it went rusty and paint peeled in half the time of mine over the same period of time and the mower has been replaced at half the age looking awful. The shop when he traded it asked if he pressure washed it and said don't do it with the new one.

    • Just your standard ryobi pressure washer. I think the way in which the water hit it, it flew off and made me aware of the issue,

Thanks for your in depth reply, will buzz a few smaller independent companies tomorrow about it. I did google it and found just weird responses about it that directed me to USA and amazon.

      • looking at photos on the internet, I can't see that some year models of Aurion have a surround on the rear windscreen - has this piece come out from under the glass or was it covering the edge? if it came out from down under the glass edge, it may not have been installed properly - could it have had a dodgy windscreen replacement at some point? Has it ever leaked during washing or rain inside? If so it may need to be lifted out and reinstalled - but still same outcome, small independent installer.

PS - very ozbargain choice of car
Not quite my favourite the camry… but of the same lineage
