Lebara (Vodafone Reseller) Stopped Working on My Phone. Any Way to Fix This?

I have a Realme 7 Pro, and I use a Lebara mobile operator that uses Vodafone networks.
Recently, it suddenly stopped accepting and receiving calls. The mobile connection shows some bars, but when I try to call it is not coming through.

Customer support there is almost non existent, but if I play a detective with lots of missing information I suspect it may have stopped due to phasing out of 3G networks. My other service - Boost (Telstra) works just fine on the same phone, and this Lebara service works on other phone (Motorola 30 Pro).

I suspect it is due to the fact that Lebara requires some VoLTE protocol which is not supported by Realme. Although realme states thye support VoLTE by default and it seems to be working with Boost.

Is there any way to make it work without changing mobile phone or mobile operator? Thanks

PS I saw some instructions for OnePlus phones but mine is a different brand.

Thank you, will try ordering a new sim.

  • Lebara has initiated cost cutting measures.
Min still works but just, data rates are like 1% as they would normally be and that on a new TCL 5G phone.

    • Lebara doesn't offer 5G, so you won't get 5G speeds either way (just pointing this out as you mentioned having a 5G phone and comparing speeds).
I'm with them now and get around 25Mbps on 4G, which is more than enough for me, but yes, I know when I was direct with Vodafone, the speeds were even faster, on 4G (100 to 300Mbps at the same location).
This is on a full 5 bars of cell signal.

      • could be prioritization if the tower you connect to have a lot of user, they need to ensure Vodafone users have good speed before lebara user.

Or could be the tower itself have degraded in performance.

I just did a speed test with my lebara, 4G, near Martin Place Sydney, 198mbps down 32mbps up.

Similar result at home, I live somewhere near t4 line

        • I just did a speed test on a family members Vodafone service, which gets over 500Mbps on 5G, 273Mbps on 4G. As I was saying, 25Mbps for regular mobile use is more than adequate for me, I don't really see much value in higher speeds for my use on a mobile.
On the other hand, we have 1Gbps on NBN but that's for a completely different purpose (lots of 4K streams at once at times), which we don't do on a mobile device.

  • I suspect it is due to the fact that Lebara requires some VoLTE protocol which is not supported by Realme

Yes has to do with VoLTE, as 4G doesn't support dedicated voice, for calling over 4G it have to be transmitting via internet data.
When they decom 3G (which have dedicated voice protocol), you will not able to make call unless you can VoLTE or VoWiFi.

Although realme states thye support VoLTE by default and it seems to be working with Boost.

Telstra have not decom their 3G yet, so your testing is not valid unless you can make sure it's using VoLTE.

although some carrier have some weird setting about VoLTE for certain handset, to force enable VoLTE support can try https://xdaforums.com/t/enable-volte-vowifi-in-unsupported-c…

    • Yes, I can see that Boost is using VoLTE (or WoFI) because when I make calls there is a little HD sign next to said calls which in Realme language indicates that it is using voice over internet. Also, in the Boost sim settings there is a WoFI toggle available (unlike Lebara).

      • so after your sim replacement, if the volte toggle still doesn't appear, it will be due to weird carrier settings, you might need to follow the instruction in the link to force enable volte on carrier unsupported devices.

  • I just wanted to add a simple solution that seems to work for the Realme 7 5G. The replacement Sim only seems to last a few weeks but without being an engineer, maybe this works in a similar way?

Settings > System Settings > Back up and reset > Reset Phone > Reset network settings.
