Mesh Wi-Fi + Router System Reccomendations

Afternoon,

My friend is requiring a mesh wifi network for their two-story business, including a router. NBN compliant, unfortunately I don't know the specific type of connection however the message she sent me from Optus says it's a "business-grade NBN connection".

Just wanted to see what people would recommend as there's always a ton of discussion in the comments when deals for these get posted and it's a little complicated to understand. Hoping this isn't a duplicate, apologies if so.

Thanks!

  • Consumer grade I've been very happy with my Asus Zenwifi setup at home. Limited number of users/devices.
Commercial grade: Aruba Networks. We're using pre-"instant on" products (which sounds like marketing hype) but have had them running for about 5 years. 2 nodes serving usually up to 30/40 people and the subsequent number of devices. https://www.arubainstanton.com/

  • What kind of business is it? Is it super duper essential to have internet all the time?
    if so:
as a consumer i'm happy with:
    - GL.Inet brume2 (so you can have VPN Server, Adguard and mobile phone tethering fail-over for when NBN dies, this will be your router.)
    - TPLInk Deco Xe75pro in Access Point mode
    - A bunch of network switches for wired connections

    • It's just a retail store, they only need it for the wifi capability.

  • Optus says it's a "business-grade NBN connection".

Doesn't mean much other than it is a business plan. Just like business mobile plans.

What speed is the NBN plan/connection?

    How big is the building?

    How many staff?

    Are they all wireless devices?

What type of 'work' will they be doing?

    • Thats not exactly right. Business grade plans TC4 have higher upload speed. For example 100/40 vs 100/20 with some consumer plan. But also more importantly, business grade plans have the ability to add service level agreements with fault restoration of 12hrs, 8hrs or 4hrs.

OP could be referring to a business fibre service though. Not sure.

LOL Thats for cleaning up something I never said. If you bothed to read, I did ask what speed NBN they are getting.

Regardless, it still comes down the same NBN connection. I can sign up my home to a business plan. So as I said, a "business-grade NBN connection" doesn't mean much in most cases. It'll still be HFC/FTTP/FTTC in most cases, sure it has some 'fancy' SLA on it, but in most cases that means jack too for a NBN related issue.

I doubt it, just about every 'business-grade NBN connection' I've seen is your bog standard 'consumer' grade connection. Again maybe a question that needs answering to provide a solution.

  • Someone mentioned it above, but Aruba instant-on is a very good product for businesses.

Now the type of Access point you will require depends mainly on usage and how many staff will be connected at once.

It is, but without knowing any details like the questions I asked above, no one can really advise anything.
