Should I Close Bank Acccounts That I Opened Just for The Sign-up Bonus?

I've opened quite a few savings/spending accounts with various banks (ANZ Plus, ubank, Up, St. George) just for their sign-up/referral bonuses. After I got the bonuses I transferred out to my main savings account, and now these accounts are just sitting there with $0. None of them have fees, so should I keep the accounts or just close them to maybe get another sign-up bonus in the future?

  • Tried to close ANZ over 27c held there for years but 3 branch visits later no luck.
But who in their right mind would close a Ubank account?

All you need to say is "I do not want to be your customer any longer" , if you do not close my account I will be making a complaint to afca.

Complaints to afca can cost them money, they will close it by giving you a cashiers cheque for 27c.

Unused accounts automatically close after a period of inactivity with any funds transferring to the government. Just forget about them.

    • Every bank has their own way.
Me Bank closed one for us after 4 years of inactivity. Now their new MeHome seems to be a failure.

I like to keep them incase any good offers come up, for example cashback deals on debit cards. Eventually the bank will close them for you if they are not used for a long time.

  • Id close them because you could be eligible for introductory type offers again after 12 months or so, where existing customers are excluded.

  • What is up promotion at the moment? Also ANZ plus? Thanks
