How Do I Fix My Gaming PC That Takes A Really Long Time To Load

Hey Guys, since I've built my pc its been taking a really long time to load up. The main issue is that the motherboard when loading up takes a long time going between the different startup lights. The orange and red ones take a really long time whereas the white and green are very short. I don't really understand the reason for this. I tried troubleshooting it but couldn't figure it out. I've just left it for a while but it takes me about 1 minute to load up which is quite annoying when I have really good parts in the system and it should be taking no less than 10 seconds to load. The orange light takes the longest time and the red light is slightly longer than white and green.

The Specs of the PC:
Ryzen 7 7800x3d
GTX 1660ti (bought a RTX 4080 but still waiting on it)
ddr5 6000 CL30 ram 32gb
2tb 7000read/write nvme drive
B650-A Asus motherboard
Kraken Elite AIO
Lian li fans x10
strimer cable extensions.

I bought a separate usb hub for the fans, the display for the kraken and the cable extension as there wasn't enough in the motherboard.

  • Since you have given soooooo much details about the components, I can confidently suggest you update your 1980s IBM PC to a more modern one that might boot a little faster …

    • ahahaaha. yeah sorry about that. The specs on the pc are ryzen 7 7800x3d, gtx 1660ti (bought a rtx 4080 but still waiting on it), ddr5 6000 CL30 ram, 2tb 7000read/write nvme drive, B650-A Asus motherboard, Kraken Elite AIO, Lian li fans x10 and the strimer cable extensions. Update your BIOS, it sometimes helps …

The "A" variant of the 650 chipset was probably a mistake for those components, they are not well know for "speed" :/

Bare minimum mobos for decent AM5 experience are (cheapest to most expensive):

        Asrock B650M-HDV/M.2
        Gigabyte B650M DS3H
        MSI Pro B650M-A WiFi
        Gigabyte B650M Aorus Pro AX
        Asrock B650 PG Lightning
        MSI Pro B650-P WiFi
        Asrock B650E PG Riptide WiFi
Asus ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi

2 or 4 sticks of RAM? "A" chipsets don't like > 16GB sticks nor do they like 4 sticks …

        • Yeah didn't really know that. I watched tons of reviews and videos on it and they were all positive so I decided to buy it. The bios I have updated already to the latest one and its still the same and I also have 2 sticks of ram in the slots 2 and 4 which the manual stated to do. I can't really pinpoint what I did wrong.

@NAHBROGG: Check your mobo manual for support of 32GB sticks …

Generally, adding some VRAM voltage tends to helps (add ~ 10%, so if 1.2V sticks try 1.3V, etc) …

            • @7ekn00: Ill give that a shot. The thing is the orange led which is the cpu light is taking the longest, the red doesnt take as long. Its just slightly longer than the white and green

  • Have you changed or played around with any BIOS settings?

    • Nope, haven't done anything except boost speed of ram to 6000 which the ram stick were capable of running. Its the T-force delta CL30 6000mhz 32gb sticks

The reason for slow load times on AMD is cause everytime it boots it retrains the memory, check your bios for a setting called "Memory Context Restore" and turn it on.

Bloody legend. Went from 1 minute boot up to less than 10. You’re amazing. Only thing is the red light is still a bit long but can always drop the speed from 6000mhz to 5600mhz as it’s not a huge decrease in performance but the boot up time is fast enough for me now

one thing to be mindful about using memory context restore, during extreme weather change or humidity change, the memory could fail to train.

but chance is small, and you could always power cycle to try again, worst case you might need to clear CMOS and restore default to force a full mem-training.

  • Try booting with just one memory stick.
What is the boot order in bios?

    • I’ll try

  • I still have no idea how much RAM is in your PC.

    • I have 32gb

  • DDR5 take forever to train in the first place.

    especially with old, outdated bios.

    Ah I see your problem

    need to update these

    strimer cable extensions

  • Check for bios update, set ram profile to the asus settings first one.

Make sure in the other bios settings that it is not trying to check the ram for faults on boot.

It is well known ddr5 motherboards can take some time to boot (gigabyte were the best in tests). I have an Asus ddr5 board myself, sometimes it will take a while to get through boot (I guess it decided to re-train the ram) other times boots up quickly.

Alternatively, you could just put windows into sleep mode instead of shut down?

  • turn on fast/quick boot

    press the turbo button

  • Over the last week my pc developed 18 minute boot times. Unplugged the 5 sata disks and booted fine. Plugged drives in one by one with reboots in between untill I found the drive causing the slow boot. Changed the sata cable and fixed the problem. Bottom line it could be anything. Best of luck.
