Family Travel Insurance for a 8 Night South Pacific Cruise?

Planning a 8 night cruise through the South Pacific later this year - depart Sydney, visit a couple of Islands, return Sydney. Family of 5 (ages 18, 22, 45, 45, 70)

Seeking tips/recommendations for where to get travel insurance from.

I've tried a couple of the comparison websites (eg, iSelect, CompareTheMarket) however these don't seem to cover many providers (eg, lots of places seem to provide travel insurance, but they're not on those comparison websites … places like Woolworths, Coles, BudgetDirect, BUPA, RACV, NRMA, AusPost, Allianz, etc..)

    Doubt you'll be getting a single 'family' policy to cover everyone considering everyone is over 18! You'll be looking at a few couple policies or just a plan multi person policy. If you go a family policy, read the fine print. It might have something like all people need to be living at the same address or a clause saying they are dependent. Insurance companies will happily take your money only to say yeah nah when you go to claim.

    Look at InsureandGo, had a good experience with them before during a claim, which is what really counts the most. Also make sure cruise cover is selected!

    InsureandGo which BTW class a 'family', as a couple and dependent children.

    Family
    This option provides cover for two adults who are in a Partner relationship and their accompanying dependent children.

    • Thanks will check them out

      You don’t tell them you’re a family/book designated “family cover”. You just input the birthdates/ages of all travellers and the insurers quote you for that combination of people/ages. As long as you’re travelling together, you don’t need to be a family. I’ve travelled with friends in the past, booked the same insurance policy, made claims, and never had an issue with this.

      Absolutely agree with checking the PDS to confirm, as I do believe some will do as you’ve said. But many don’t.

      For example, covermore PDS doesn’t have a “family” definition, but does define:

      "You" "Your", Yourself" means the people listed on the Certificate of Insurance and includes Accompanied Children.
      Where more than one person is listed on the Certificate of Insurance all benefits, limitations, conditions and exclusions will be interpreted as if a separate policy was issued to each of the persons listed other than:
      a) in the event a claim arising from the one event is made, an excess (if applicable) will only be applied once;
      b) in the case of luggage item limits which shall be as per a single policy;
      c) for SECTION 4: Amendment or Cancellation Costs applies per policy.

        Thanks for the neg then. But InsureandGo does define 'family' and the OP 'adult' family doesn't cut it.

        YMMV. As I said, read the fine print. They'll happily take your money.

          Thanks for the incorrect assumption

    Use the the link from your cruise line they give more of a discount through their link than going directly to their website, e.g. Carnival Corp recommended partner is Covermore.
