Music CDs from $0.99, Vinyl Records from $9.99ea + Delivery ($0 Click & Collect/in-Store) @ JB Hi-Fi

1010

Was scrolling JB hifi clearance section to find some pc clearance stuff and noticed they have a lot of cheap CD's starting from $0.99. Most mainstream and well known artists start at $2.99. I know Spotify is king but I guarantee there are still CD collectors out there amongst us.

Happy shopping

Ta-Dah was a good album. I remember buying and listening to it years ago. very peppy sort of album.

    • +1

Oh hell yeah, CD + DVD combo for 99c! I've ordered one and I plan to have gay old time.

    • Just bought a SS at an op-shop for 50 cents- lol. Guess I'll have a peek at JB!

  • +2

if only I still had a dvd drive

    • Or a record player, haven't seen one in a home I've lived in since the 90s, and even then it was never used.

  • +3

all vinyl starts at $9.99. probably not a shock, but the (edited) title is a little misleading imo..

    • Better report OP to the ACCC then….

      • +10

all im saying is 'cd clearance from $0.99, vinyl clearance from $9.99…' is probably a clearer title.

    • Unsure about CDs, but they always have a section for vinyl on clearance that starts at about $9.99.

    • +1

tbf i did have cd albums originally from $0.99 as the title, not sure why it was edited

      • +1

i did notice that, didn't mean to blame you op :)

    • -1

so you got snarky at a random staff member who probably has no control of what the store stocks and offered you an option? and they're dead to you over this experience? lol yikes dude

      • -2

I did not get snarky thankyou. I literally did not write that, you interpreted it. And no I asked them to pass a message to the manager & head office that it doesn't make sense. Yes some hyperbole in what I wrote… But literally it's a terrible decision and welcome to the internet regarding hyperbole…

I don't shop at the good guys more than once every few years and if JB stop in-store music/movies then I will shop at JB with the same frequency (at best).

    • +1

JB hi-fi wants to be the good guys.

They want to be the brand they own?

      • Yes. Insane isn't it

Vinyl is always overpriced at jb. Hopefully they have some good deals with this clearance.

    • +2

Yeah JB arent the go to ppl for vinyl. Better independent retailers around.

    website is glitchy af.
Keeps clearing my cart. Happened on two different devices. Tried about 10 times and haven't managed to get all the way through checkout yet. Given up.

    • Assume the items you’re looking at are selling out before you checkout?

    • I had the same issue. Had to do two orders and pay postage twice just to buy the amount I needed. Windows, apple, any browser, always same result. It would make your choice of 20 albums sky rocket as it would randomly decide you want 5 copies of each, then 9, then 15. Crazy

      • +1

yep I had this too. Then randomly delete the whole cart when you try to remove one of the 20 duplicates it created.

        • meanwhile JB. "our online sales aren't as high as we expected"

  • Got a few $1-3 metalcore CDs in recent months

    • Examples?

      • +1

Converge, Letlive, Every Time I Die, In Hearts Wake, Northlane, Sienna Skies, The Ghost Inside, Parkway Drive, blessthefall. All acquired at various JB's. Stock is limited, best to search for availability via the website.

  • +1

Just went through all the records but unfortunately nothing there for me.

    Thanks anyway OP.

  • +5

Absolutely nothing "clearance" about those vinyl prices. Unless they are doing their 20% off vinyl sale, JBHiFi is generally an expensive option for vinyl. If you're going to waste your money at least support a local record store like Utopia or Red Eye.

    • Add Rare Records to that list, located in Melbourne. Physical and online store.

  • +3

The down fall of JB Hi-Fi has begun. Legacy media is doomed.

    • +16

      I totally agree with you. Beware, incoming rant in 3 … 2 … 1 …

I think the fall started about 3-4 years ago when my local JB Hifi store relocated and when I visited the new store I searched then asked where the Bluray section was located?.

Was told they don't stock bluray movies any more… That day is the day JB in my mind went down the path of DSE and will die a slow death.. To compare, DSE went from being a hobbiest electronics store, to a 'oh look we are selling cheap tvs and radios like everyone else'. type of store and totally ignoring the customers that were its bread and butter in the early days. Jaycar is still in business - wonder why?…they still sell electronics, still a great place to visit and shop and they have staff who know their ohm's law.

As I tell co-workers and friends at work who think streaming is the way to go - when you purchase music or a movie, you get better quality than streaming. you can SHARE the content with friends by lending discs (and not having to pay extra to share). You also own the right to listen to it as you see fit - No internet connection? No problem. You can still listen, at home, in the car etc.. They can't take it away from you either if the artist decides to yank their music library.

Worth keeping in mind that streaming services will progressively increase in price too. Netflix might now be only $20, but give it a year $25, another year $30, and before you know it $50 a month.. So guess what, after a year you've spent $600 and the moment you cancel your subscription, guess what you own to watch? ZIlch.. Nadda.. Much like Adobe software that after 3 years you'd have paid for it and owned it outright - now you're just a cash cow to be milked by large billion dollar companies.

I understand the benefits of streaming services, but I also understand choice and the choice to purchase the rights to listen and watch content when I want to watch it and not when the vendors decide I can.

People, please do not let convenience take away from having the choice how you consume and purchase your media - the companies are FORCING you into a 'pay in perpetuity' model to enjoy your entertainment.

      /rant

      • +1

I use streaming for the access to the catalogue, opportunity to try new artists, songs, genre, movies that I may not usually be exposed to, all without the hefty cost of needing to actually buy it…..remember the days of regret as you really only like the one song in the whole album, or an episode only from the whole series, do you buy it, do you not…?

Also don't have space to keep all the media. And all that plastic case is pretty bad for the environment. :p

I get your points. I have moved from physical media to pirating everything to now just pay for streaming. The ease and time saved while getting more access is just unbeatable. Imagine being the music / video shop owner and having access to every and any album you can see, that kinda choice is pretty hard to beat.

PS:. You can kinda still share media…just add your friend to your streaming account.

        • I do use a few services myself such as youtube music, netflix, paramount and amazon - in the past had kayo, disney, stan so I know its a great way to enjoy new fresh content - that said, spent over $100 this month on bluray movies and yesterday $10 on CD's courtesy of this deal. Some of those movies are NOT on streaming services or I'd have to subscribe to all of them to watch.

Yes that plastic case is bad for the environment, but so is burning coal in instances where solar/clean energy isn't enough, to create the electricity to run the data centers to host the content (even when nobody is accessing those servers they still chew up power being kept on). Least with a CD case its carbon footprint is a once off.

As long as we can choose and have both (physical, streaming), cash / EFT etc I'm happy.

      • +1

Well put, I tell people the same. Let’s hope that CD sales last as long as vinyls have until now.

Streaming services are going out of favour now partially because of the points you made.

    • JB is basically good guys/harvey norman in most stores. Only select have music/movies now

      • In Sydney, most JB's still have CDs!

        • +1

          Enjoy while you can

  • Anyone recommend any of these CDs that are $2.99 or below? I don't recognize any of the artists selling for $0.99 and $1.99 and only Pink and Madonna at $2.99.

    • Can you not search the artist names on Spotify, amazon music, youtube music and listen to the tracks first before deciding to buy the media?

      • +1

Yeah that's what I plan to do if someone recommends a particular artist and I like them xD But I'm not gonna go search all the artists without a recommendation

        • I'd Far East Movement, but appears sold out or unavailable. These clearance bin items are going to be like that which can be a waste of time if you don't know what you're looking for.

          • +2

            @THICKnSLOW: It flew off the shelf like a G6. Like a like a G6.

I like Shihad. They are heavier rock but that's a good album.

    • I LOVE the Asgier - In The Silence album. I was so happy to see it in the list.

This deal made me feel old. I went through the entire list of CDs and only recognised the artists on maybe six of them. Or is that how it is for everyone, it's mostly obscure artists?

    • +1

Yep, obscure leftovers is my take. The vinyl is at market pricing after the discount.

  • +1

Full albums used to be $30 in the 90s, what a world we come to

    • How much were singles?

      • Can be around $8 or so.

      • -1

Singles were usually a couple of songs from the album or same song but different takes (acoustic, radio mix etc). From memory 5 kangaroos then 7 then 8 kangaroos.

They never sold well anyway. But that's the thing…do you buy the album…or do you buy the single. I lost count of cds (before trial listen stations with grotesque shared headsets) I bought to only regret… only then find out just that one song you heard on radio was good, all the other tracks were fillers.

This is why I love streaming. Listen to any and every song you want. And discover some new stuff while at it thru recommendation and community playlists.

        • Singles were usually a couple of songs from the album or same song but different takes (acoustic, radio mix etc).

Might have been fo the ones you bought but not always the case.

          They never sold well anyway.

Yeah, nah.. again.. a personal opinion isnt fact. One example - DJs used sungles.

But that's the thing…do you buy the album…or do you buy the single. I lost count of cds (before trial listen stations with grotesque shared headsets) I bought to only regret… only then find out just that one song you heard on radio was good, all the other tracks were fillers.

This is such a biases opinion again. I bought many albums based off 1 sing heard and discovered some other 'non rafio played' songs on many albums.

This is why I love streaming.

This is why I 'dont' love streaming. You never own a song anymore and yet you rent it.

Listen to any and every song you want.

Im old enough to remember the sayings about ipods: 'Have thousands of songs but only listen of to just a bunch of songs'. I had an opportunity to get free streaming for 1 year. Needless to say I didnt continue using it.

And discover some new stuff while at it thru recommendation and community playlists.

This can be true. As sadly, prior to streaming music services, we were mostly controllee by the radio & TV towards what we ended up listening to.

But, like for me.. I look at buying music like buying a new book. A discovery. I listen to music for music. Not for buying something that I can relate to… If you need an example if what this means look up the reason why 'Hey Now' was first predicted to be a massive hit, but then originally flopped. Why¿. In short because it was different that what people had heard before and they coulnt relate to it.

But, like many people reading this, probably heard part of that song sung in their heads after reading it.

You mention about music stores making you wear headsets to listen to music to see if you liked them. Yes, sadly this became common in big chain stores. But let me reasure you that this wasnt everywhere.

Also.. so many other ways still exist for someone to discover new music. But hey… you just keep justifying your need to stream. Especially if you are paying for that service.

or maybe i was just lucky enough tonhave slowly collected mty massive music collection over time. Appreciated the joy in my journey of music discovery. And now very occasionally add another song, or another album to my collection while saving money in doing so.

  • JBs must be getting rid of all physical media eventually I take it?
Nothing of interest with the cheap CDs besides Josh Pyke (and have one or two already).

Still got a DVD burner, doesn't fit in the case these days but can connect ha.
Bought and ripped a good number of CDs back in the day to FLAC, mostly use Tidal now but good having an offline selection and own collection (when you get sick of streaming).

    • +1

Yeah I used to backup my CDs to flac. These days I look for the artist on Bandcamp and if they aren’t a super popular artist who have major record label contracts, I often find them there. With Bandcamp, you can buy flacs/mp3s/CDs and the money goes straight to the artist (small percentage goes to the site to run it). And you can listen to a lot of the tracks directly their website too.

    • JBs must be getting rid of all physical media eventually I take it?

      Seems that way.

  • +1

The plural of vinyl is vinyl

  • Showing as a blank page for me on Chrome, even with cleared Cookies. Sort your life out, JB Hi-Fi!

[Good post, OP, thanks for the heads up!]

  • +4

    Love CDs and vinyl.

Spotify is Nespresso to CD/Vinyl's ECM Giotto espresso. It's more convenient but lower quality.

Spotify is almost all compressed MP3, so cannot possibly provide the same sound as physical media. Tidal is heaps better as tracks stream in FLAC lossless (as I believe can Apple Music) but Spotify, no.

    • +2

I like to rip the CD myself and set the best possible quality to pop onto a USB stick for the car. Before MP3s, I would copy my CDs and only use the copies.

    • Love CDs and vinyl but honestly don't have as much ability/time to sit down and play them in my "listening room". But my PC (with USB DAC and headphone amp etc.) allows me to play hi-res format tracks. I prefer Qobuz to Tidal though. Secondary option is YT Music if I actually want lower quality (like poor signal areas/less bandwidth on mobile) as I get it free with YT Premium and it literally has everything. Rarely use Spotify except when people share things to me, and then I promptly move playlists to YT Music and Qobuz with Soundiiz

  • On the one hand they have no Machine Gun Fellatio.

On the other, I see they're still using the name Dixie Chicks, so that's something.

  • -1

    No cassettes?

    • No MiniDiscs?

    • Well when is the last time time you saw cassettes in stores?
Wouldn't have been since about 1995 and even then that was in the used section of the record market lol.

      • True can get them off eBay for collectors

        • go on.. don't know why anyone would bother, they are the worst format and worth nothing.
