Is it worth buying a Galaxy Nexus now or wait?

I have wanted a Samsung Galaxy Nexus for a long time and they are about $339 (from memory) from Kogan.

The LG Nexus 4 will be announced on the 29th and for sale on the 30th.

Do you think that will drop the prices of the Galaxy Nexus because its the new Google Nexus model?

I expect the LG Nexus 4 to be $600-700 at a guess and thats way out of my range.

So.. should I wait for the price to drop or do you think it might take a few months and only drop $20 or so? That would be kind of pointless waiting for.

Anyway, just curious about your opinions.

Thanks.

  • wait 4 days and find out yourself!

  • 8GB and no microSD on a modern smartphone is just plain wrong. Mod: Foul Language the cloud.

I doubt that the Galaxy Nexus price is going to drop much, it's already quite low for what it offers. $20 in a few months sounds reasonable.

    • Just because you need expandable storage, doesn't mean the alternative is 'just plain wrong'. The cloud suits me just fine.

  • I've been in the market for one as well. I bought my Nexus for $380 delivered in June. Prices now are around $350 so I'd say it's plateaued. Agree with vietbargain, wait until after the announcement to see if there are any price drops. Just awaiting one of these guys (SS, Kogan, etc.) to offer free shipping and I'll buy another.

  • I actually don't think its going to drop in 4 days, A few months for a $20 drop isnt worth the wait. Thats kind of what I was getting at.

But if it dropped to $299 or something?

I nearly bought one today but I thought if they do a free shipping deal and sell for $299 I'll save $50 or more.

Anyway I guess I'll just have to wait, but if it doesn't drop by about a month I might just get one anyway.

  • I bought Galaxy Nexus 2 weeks ago for around $350…
I love this phone! Dont Wait!

  • +1

Nexus 4 16GB is going to be $399 from Google Play AU store (and $349 from US store). With performance rivals Samsung Galaxy S3. Good for those who have waited :)

  • Oh thats a pretty reasonable price for the Nexus 4.

That might give me something else to think about.

  • For the asking price, the specs on the Nexus 4 are excellent (1.5GHz quadcore Snapdragon S4 Pro, pentaband HSPA+, inductive charging etc). The $50 price difference between US and AU pricing is a tad annoying though.

  • The $349 US doesn't include sales tax, where our $400 does include GST, so that gap isn't that big at all.

    • Are you sure buying from play.Google.com well get you a tax invoice with 10% GST included? It's no different from buying from overseas website, ie not even grey imports from Australian companies.

Plus pretty sure it says in on the sale page, but can't see it at the moment as the whole page is loading in japanese.

EDIT: Got it, right at the bottom right of the sales page of the product.

        • So what's their ABN on the invoice? A Pte Ltd sounds like an Singaporean company… We will see.
