Pocket Money Prepaid (Digital) Gift Cards
it's the first time I hear about this, and I must be too young here.
how does that work (like the Master prepaid card?) and what's the largest nomination?

    • +1

      Largest is $75.

      • +1

        And so, for the PMoney, would that be $75 - 15% + $5.95 activation fee = $69.70 (7.067% discount)?

        • +2

          Not worth it for $5.30.

          • -1

@ATangk: Okay. However, the coming week's flybuys offer "Earn 1,000 bonus Flybuys points on $100 Coles Mastercard gift cards at Coles" makes this deal better.

The trend is that bonus/rewards pts/cashback are dwindling.

  • +5

    So:
    75 * 15% = 11.25

    (11.25-5.95)/75=5.3/75=7% discount.

And one redemption per mobile number?

    Hmm… only $5.3 gain for a big w trip…

    • redemption rounded to the next $.

      $6.05 gain

      12-5.95

      • 11.25 - 5.95

        • redemption rounded to the next $.

          • @cooni: minus on an average $3 to $4 in fuel on the round trip to BigW

  • I was keen for those Pocket Money Prepaid GC but one per mobile number kills the deal for me. Thanks for posting though.

    • +3

Those boost SIM cards may come in handy

  • Can these gift cards be used to pay for my Apple One subscription?

    • +2

Yes they can, that's how I use them. FYI, similar deal (20x Flybuys points on Apple Gift Cards) is available at Coles as we speak.

  • Finally a use for all the boost SIM cards that I still have active.

  • +5

That's a lot of hassle to get the cashback. I prefer upfront discounts in-store.

  • +2

lol they learned from easternculture, limit it to mobile number now. This would now take ages to profit, if you only do 1 boost sim a month…

  • +9

    Too much hassle. Pass.

  • +1

I love free money, but if I have to jump through that many hoops I'm not sure it is worth it

  • +3

Limit one redemption claim per Mobile Number

    nvm

Need some advice on being safe. Tried getting variable Apple GC at Coles for the Flybuys deal but the staff wouldn't let me open the sleeve to check the serial before I put money on the card. My understanding is that they use the serial on the packaging to put balance on and if I open it afterwards and the card doesn't match the serial, that means I've just added the balance to the card already in the scammers possession. What's the process for buying large amounts in Apple GC while being safe?

    • I've personally never heard of Apple GCs being tampered with. From memory the packaging is usually quite secure.

Unless the scammers did it off site, or they were an employee, I reckon it would be pretty difficult to open/reseal them without being noticed.

May I ask what your cause for concern is? Or just being overly cautious?

      • Tampering apple GC is quite common if you search on FB, reddit or forum here

One of the swap method I heard is that they open the side of package and reseal it. It’s quite easy to open the side of package myself

      • Well of course they did it offsite.

    • Buy it then open it afterwards in front of them to ensure that the codes are the same inside so if it doesn't match you can report rigjt away

    • +3

You asked too many questions. It is like asking a buffet waitress if you can take away the leftovers, what do you expect her to answer?

Next time just open and check them first before heading to the checkouts. If they point out about the opened packaging just tell them you checked to be sure. I do it all the time and never had any problems. You need to help others to help you if you get what I mean.

  • @HamBoi69 Would there be a limit on the number of cashback available?

    https://www.microgifts.com/terms-of-use/

The current promo you referenced (https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/830325) is limited to 1000 bonus digital gift cards.

    https://www.microgifts.com/consumerfaqs/
Once you have set-up your app account all subsequent cards are automatically added to your account and wallet (the balance is accumulated on the same Digital Cash card in your wallet).

I'm assuming Spending Money e-gift card will use the same Digital Cash account as Pocket Money if you already have an account.

P.S. Tried calling Microgifts twice but got an answering machine

    • -1

Limit one redemption claim per Mobile Number.

      • Yes one per person (same as Spending Money promo) but is there a limit on number of cashback available? Spending Money promo has a limit of 1000.

  • 20x EDR works out to be 10% discount on those cards?

    • +5

It depends on how you value Everyday Rewards points.

If you value 2,000 Everyday Rewards points at $10 (which is the conversion rate for Everyday Rewards points into Everyday Rewards Dollars):

a 20x points earn rate means you will have 10% of the gift card’s face value returned to you in the form of Everyday Rewards points.

Whether you consider this 10% as a discount on the gift card itself, or as a discount you need to redeem on a future shop is really up to you. For example, if you purchase a $100 Apple gift card through this deal, you will receive 2,000 Everyday Rewards points, which then converts into $10 in Everyday Rewards Dollars. Do you see $10 in Everyday Rewards Dollars as a discount on the gift card itself, or as a discount you need to redeem on a future shop?

However, if you convert your Everyday Rewards points into Qantas points, the 10% calculation above is redundant, as Qantas points do not have a fixed monetary value (i.e. its value ultimately depends on how you value Qantas points).

  • Am I blind? I don't actually see it on the catalogue. If it's a new catalogue how does FreePoints know it's coming up?

    • Am I blind? I don't actually see it on the catalogue.

This deal should appear in the BIG W catalogue publicly released on 20 February at 0000 Sydney time. (I base this off the fact that when BIG W has a new catalogue, they usually release it at 0000 Sydney time on the Tuesday before the deals in the catalogue starts.)

If it's a new catalogue how does FreePoints know it's coming up?

They presumably were told about this deal by someone who has access to the BIG W catalogue (or knowledge of the deals in the catalogue) before it is publicly released.

      • Gotcha. And historically they've been a reliable source?

        • They have been reliable in the past, and I have no reason to believe they are not reliable this time.

  • has anyone tried apple gift card this round in bigw ? Last round no point was awarded has to talk to customer service to claim it all

  • +1

I got 10% discount on the previous promo, product is really good to use on your phone, each card adds to the previous card balance in the App.
Once you go digital, it is cumbersome to go back to plastic and load each card manually into your phone - unless you are getting a big discount!

    • I don’t think it’s that grate. I’m still adding from cards from aldi and haven’t started the big W ones from the last two promotions

  • Bought 2 pocket money gift cards for my wife and myself, already used and claimed for bonus. Now waiting for bonus, lets see how long it takes.

    • I just got the SMS from microgifts with the bonus.

      • Got 1 yesterday and waiting for one more.

  • I tried 2 stores and neither stocked them although I didn't check with customer service.
