Motorola Edge 40 Camera Is Really Bad - Any Fix?

I've had my edge 40 for a couple days and have found everything from the power, screen, capability, design etc to be great and a really, really good phone.

The only issue I have is the camera is terrible. Is there some sort of update or 3rd party app the many Motorola users of ozb have installed which they've found to have minimized these issues?

Any guide to fixing it or suggested setting changes will be very much appreciated!

    yes. a dslr. (:

      • a course on photography + a course on editing photos. Phones do a lot of work for you.
      • i use my phone where its good. i use my dslr for everything else. i don't edit anything. there's raw files for when i have time. my phone also does raw files

        • Best camera is the one you have with you. I have a mirrorless, but it often isn't with me.

Thanks to software, in difficult conditions, a phone will often give a better result with far less work.

Thinking software will magically fix your hardware issues is like the old fake iphone apps that made it waterproof.

Definitely not true, most of the camera smarts lies in the software and not the camera itself. Google used the same sensor in their phones for years in their pixel phones but could still sell it as "better" each year thanks to the software improvements.

I have an Edge 30 and installing GCam was like magic with night mode

    • The thing is that it isn't a hardware issue. The physical camera is good but is let down by poor software.

  • You need to sideload Google Camera and hope someone has made a configuration file for your phone. Having a quick look around it seems there is a stable one for the Edge 40 with a few caveats.

    • Sounds like a major issue if your phone can't even make phone calls

      • yep, it also only happened sometimes
also had cam issues too with focusing. shit company

        • they are ALL shit companies

have you done a reset with their rsa tool

it worked with mine when it was perma stuck on an old update

          • @Sinnerator: so i just bought a s24 and im having the same issues with robot voices i cant hear anything im with vaya and wifi calling off, idk whats happening? tried to google and cant find anything

  • If you want a decent camera or phone for that matter, don't buy Motorola.

I tried a couple of models but gave up years ago due to their refusal to handle warranty. Both models started out ok, but within a couple of months had major issues (purple camera on one, and nearly impossible to hear callers on another).

Neither were physically damaged (visibly perfect all around), but when sent for repairs they refused service, citing physical damage….

Wouldn't ever touch another of their devices…

    • I am on 3rd motorola phone and so far no complaint.
