No MS paint diagram. But can I park on the right of the sign (on the weekend)?

Thanks

    Yes

Passenger set down or pick up is allowed during the no parking times as well.

    No parking sign:
"You can stop for less than 2 minutes if you stay within 3m of your vehicle, if you're: dropping off or picking up passengers."

      Damn NSW is tough.

I’ve dropped someone off to the shops for 10 mins by parking in a no parking spot when the carpark was full and just sat in the car staring down the ranger in WA 😂

They just gave us a dirty stare back and went on their way because i was in the car still.

Not sure what they're like in WA, but in NSW and Victoria, you'll probably end up with a ticket in the mail!

        • They are more relaxed then other states.
If someones in the car, they let it go as it can be argued they are “standing” not “parked”.

The No Parking sign has specific rules to it where you can drop off and pick up passengers, but I've never seen that "Passenger set down or ….." sign before and wonder if it's even an "authorised" or "approved" sign.

It would not be an "authorised" sign and would be there simply for informational value only.

All road signs need to adhere to an Australian Standard and the "passenger set down" offered no other information that can be related back to any road rule or AS compliant sign.

At one of the schools in my area, we have similar signs on the poles that say "Kiss and Ride area" that all the entitled shithead Karen mothers ignore every morning and afternoon.

    Yes, on the weekend.

And since it states "school days", it would be ok to park there during school holidays and public holidays.

    • Yes, but not teacher only days.

      • +2

In NSW, “teacher only” days (often referred to where I work as “staff development days”) are classed as still classed as school days, as school is open and operational in a limited capacity (kids don’t go, but still open).

So any day that the NSW deem a “school day” and between the times mentioned, that would be a “no parking” area.

  • Any time outside the hours on the no parking sign.
Ocallh we dont have the passengr set down sign. Its called a kiss and ride zone round here, on a blue sign. Its to allow parents to drop off or pick up their little precious from the hulking SUV without having to park or God forbid actually walk a few steps.

  • It would depend if that passenger set down or pick up sign is enforceable by anyone. It's not a standard sign, but could there be some quirky council parking law making it enforceable, if so then you can't park there.

    • Councils can’t make up their own road rules or signs. The signs need to conform with NSW road rules.

Their signs would need to be from this list if the council were going to use them to enforce road rules.

The sign here is nothing more than informational about what drivers can do during the periods of “no parking”. This “drop off and pick up” sign is not enforceable outside the times mentioned on the “no parking” sign.

      • Councils can’t make up their own road rules or signs. The signs need to conform with NSW road rules.

Seems there is more than one of these signs around so someone is. Might be a Blacktown council thing or a school thing. See page 11, but yes it doesn't appear to be enforceable outside of the no parking times listed based on the school booklet.

From the booklet you've linked, it says that it's 2 minutes max between the times on the No Parking sign (which is in line with the standard No Parking timing).

But it also says "Vehicles must display the names of students, in the windscreen, on approach. Name cards are provided". I'd like to see how a fine for someone who does a drop-off without a name card on the windscreen holds up in court!

Cover the sign with a bag and park whenever you want

  • +1

    Yes
    No
    I don't know
    Can you repeat the question?

  • +1

I'd assume no, unless you are quickly dropping someone off or picking someone up?

    • +1

That only applies to the No Parking times doesn't it?

  • What did the sign say?

  • +4

The sign says "You cannot park to the right of this sign between the hours of 08:30 - 09:30 and 14:30 - 16:00 on school days". Therefore you can park any other time to the right of the sign.

You can also park there on school days, just not between those hours.

  • Yes, anytime on the weekend EXCEPT between 8:30-9:30am.

    • No, that timeslot is for school days.

    • Why not 230-4pm? (But yes, its a school day only thing)
