        • Just use wifi calling on your Aussie local sim or eSIM? I suppose if you can’t wait til you at hotel then that’s a different story

  • FINALLY BOOST!!

  • -3

FWIW…. have experienced terrible signal quality using an eSIM on my new S23. Went back to a physical SIM and it's massively improved. By way of example… -114dBm (one bar) improved to -96dBm (3 bars). This is now on par with my S21 performance in the same location.

  • Not sure this is a ‘deal’ but great information OP. We’ve all been waiting too long for boost esims

  • Is it easy to move an e Sim from one phone to another?

    • +1

It looks like you simply use the boost app to import the sim to the new device while automatically deleting it from the old one.

  • -3

On iOS you should be able to convert a physical SIM to an eSIM without needing to use the Boost app.

Check out the “Convert a physical SIM to an eSIM on the same iPhone” section in https://support.apple.com/en-au/HT212780?cid=mc-ols-esim-art…

    • I have tried and it still gives me a blank page after I do this + signing to the Telstra page. It won’t work for existing users it seems

  • how to move esim from one phone to another

    • +1

open app on new phone and request eSIM

  • OK, just switched to Telstra because boost didn’t support eSIM………

  • +1

Can we activate this Boost eSIM on Apple Watch as well ?
    Did anyone tried ?

    • I’m wanting to know too. My mum is on the $62 plan with Telstra because she likes to keep her $5 service for her Apple Watch. My ozbargain soul is hurting… want to move her to boost!!

  • +1

Seems like the porting service is down atm? Or just me?

    • +1

It is down for me as well.

      • I just locked my physical SIM trying to set a PIN on it lol, and now the online porting service is down, great 🤦

  • This is great news. Thanks

  • -1

So if you somehow crash your phone, how do you keep your prepaid plan?
As I had a cousin that converted his Voda prepaid to esim when he was visiting. His phone somehow wont turn on and no more access to the esim.

    • +2

Login to the app on the new phone. eSIM can be transferred without the old device.

      • +2

Login to app sometimes need sms as 2nd factor of authentication :)

With esim capability, can this be used on a samsung watch LTE?

    • Technically, it can.
But the big three (Telstra, Optus n Vodafone) charge a monthly fee to use this service on the watch and I think they haven't let any of the MVNOs provide that feature. So this can't be used on a watch for now until the big three let it happen.

  • Time to meet the CS to activate my Sims lol

  • YEAHHHH BABY!!!! About bloody time!

  • I don't see the option to transfer. Samsung s21 ultra have updated the app

  • done thanks

  • Finallyyyy

  • So does this esim work on an apple se 2nd gen i believe phone, i am pretty sure it allows dual esim and SIM card.
I have an Apple Watch cellular i believe from past comments I still can’t use this with my watch and why?
What are they reason to get esim otherwise I know it can be handy for travel which I ain’t done much of but what else is the esim good for?

If it works on my phone i believe to update the app and and I’m good to go, I am not sure the process of adding it to phone but I’m sure if i read back at this start of this post it will explain.

But I wanted this esim more for my Apple Watch and lol it’s I believe not available for this seems a waste

Thumbs up for eSIM functionality but be mindful if anything goes wrong, these guys don’t have a store you can visit. I have had a sim fault and lost service completely for almost a week. They won’t let you pickup new $2 replacement sim from local retailer to get your service back up and running promptly, they would instead mail you a replacement sim that could take a week to arrive. So that’s there for some quality service, company policy apparently. So be mindful of such situations when choosing these guys.

    • I had the same issue last night when converting to esim. Error message on last step of the conversion process and within minutes, I have lost service completely as the physical sim was disabled (as their system thinks the esim conversion process was completed - which it hasn't). Spent ages on the phone with Boost consultant who advised I should head to a Telstra store and they should be able to help me restore my sim service. At the Telstra store the rep said that they can't do much about Boost service as it is different to Telstra, his best solution was for me to port my service over to a Telstra service. This was done within 10 minutes. The rep was fantastic. If I ever have a Boost plan again, I'd probably stay away from conversion to esim.

      • -1

Agree with you. Don't use eSIM for many reason.
        1) when you have an issue its hard to get a hold from Boost support.
        2) It is much easier to swap between phones without stuffing around with transfer
        3) Cashback and discounted SIMs are usually on physically sim cards eg. Boost starter kits, porting out and back in very easy no hassles. eSIM would convert this and convert back too much work.
        4) there's a lot of people negging you guys for no reason, I give you a positive vote to even things out

Too many people on this bandwagon wanting eSIM.

IMO eSIM is good if you are traveling overseas without taking out your physical SIM and losing it. eSIMs on data roaming plan are very handy especially with deals that gives 1GB free. Totally disposable

  • +2

I had a problem when converting my service, just a FYI..in case someone else has similar problems.

The conversion would not complete on my S21, it was just stuck on "loading"..waited 20 minutes. Turned phone off for the night, tried again next day with same problem.

Then I tried this: Turned OFF my private DNS (nextDNS), and set DNS to 'automatic', hit flight mode, back to off, then tried again.

This time after the 'loading' screen, directed to to Telstra where the conversion took place.

Took about 5 minutes in total. Turned my nextDNS private DNS back on, and all working as it should.

    • +1

Yeh the app didn't like VPN when I started. Had to turn it off and restart

isn't transfers from physical sim to esim free?

    • isn't is it's

  • any point keeping the physical sim? eg i lost my phone and eSim, can i still reactive the phyiscal sim in another phone?
    thanks

    • nope, once you transfer off it you have to scrap it.

  • +2

Finally back to carrying one phone only!! I know first world problem but this is such a gamer changer.
Transfer was smooth and quick as well on iPhone 13.

  • +1

still waiting for Aldi Mobile to enable eSim :(

    • I feel we will be waiting a very long time, or pay a premium for it somehow.

  • +1

I jumped on this - now regretting! Can’t call any mobile numbers. Their customer service not available

    • oof - you may have to wait until Monday until porting is available again :(

Ask them to reprovision again it on a second eSIM

Worst case tell them you want to go back to a physical SIM so they get one in the mail asap. If they can't get the eSIM provisioned you at least will receive a replacement physical SIM in the shortest time (and if they do get the eSIM provisioned you can just not activate the physical one).

  • So if we buy the free boost sims (physical) from those CR/SB deals, then activate and transfer to esim , will we still get the cashback?

    • would like to know that too. i think best to order physical wait 30 days before changing to esim. dont think you get cashback if you order esim. not sure if you get cashback if you port in or ask them to put an existing boost number on new sim pack?

  • -1

Still waiting on Belong to provide one. eSIMs are objectively more eco friendly, so I'm surprised it wasn't implemented from the get-go.

    • Same. Asking chat support last week. They're still in testing but heard it was like that since last year.

      • Yeesh. Surely it can't be that hard to implement the same infrastructure to another provider.

  • +1

Just activated a new physical sim

When I open the boost app and transfer to esim I get 'There's been a technical problem'

Anyone else got this? Not sure if it's cause I activated the physical sim just an hour ago?

The sim card is not in the phone but according to their instructions thats not a requirement

    • +1

Yeah I'd say the account / physical sim hasn't been set up fully in the back end - try the eSIM switch again tomorrow after the backend systems have a little time to catch up

    • +1

I got the same. Tried 12hrs later without success.
As I had the same number on Telstra before, the Boost account email is also the same. I wonder if this is the reason?

      • +1

I got a new Boost number but using the same Telstra username as when I used to have Telstra.

23 hours now. Still not working.

        • -1

24 hours now… still same thing.

          • @aurz: Have you raised it with Boost or are just waiting for it to happen?

            • @bdl: Yep. Boost support had no idea.

So they transferred me to Telstra faults and they've logged a fault ticket.

              • @aurz: Good luck hope it all goes well, have you been cut off or does your physical sim still work?

                • @bdl: Physical sim still good - can't even go to the first page of the eSIM transfer

      • +1

Mine working now. Looks like it takes 48 hours after physical sim activation.

        • Very helpful. Been on chat alll day….agents told me to go to a store….store said they can’t help….another agent said nothing they can do….

Wish I had seen this earlier. Will tick over 48 hours tomorrow

          • @rxjb: Does the sim have to be in the phone to do the transfer?

Still been 48 hours and can’t get past the error something has gone wrong

    • +1

Hi i was having the exact same issues as you with a ticket lodged, I just tried again today and it has worked! Hopefully resolved on your end too

      • Yep! Just started working exactly 48 hours later

Looks like it takes 48 hours from physical sim activation to update Telstra eSIM tool.

        • +1

Mine too. Exactly 48hrs after activation

  • Thanks. Was super easy to convert my spare boost sim to esim :)

  • Warning, I switched my physical sim to esim as I'm currently overseas, which completed successfully (at least according to the app).
The issue is that on the physical sim, I could still receive SMS for 2fa/etc, however on the esim, I do no receive any inbound SMS messages.

My main bank only does 2fa via SMS (I know, dumb) but luckily my backup bank allows 2fa via the app.
I've contacted their support and will update when I hear back, but I see the roaming indicator and service so i'm pretty sure i'm connected ok.

    • That's definitely concerning. Would be good to get updates on this, whether it takes Boost/Telstra to resolve, or something we can do. Surely eSIMs should still be able to receive SMSes when roaming.

      • I'm back working again, they re-provisioned the esim and now I can receive SMS again.
Still, i'd be wary about doing it overseas if you really need SMS access.

        • +1

Just checking, are you saying you're back in AU and everything is working? Or are you saying that you are still overseas, and that they re-provisioned the e-SIM, and you are able to receive SMSes while roaming overseas now?

If the former, you still don't know if it works overseas…
If the latter, then did they say what went wrong? How would we know before we go overseas if it's working or not?

          • @dealz4all: Latter, I guess something was borked about the esim i got the first time. They 2FA'd me via email because obviously I could not get SMS.
It's working now and i can receive SMS (in europe).

            • @atymic: Apart from testing by going overseas…was there any other indication there was an issue with the eSIM? (i.e. how would we know prior to testing?) That is a worrisome issue if we can't know before going overseas, and relatively hard to resolve once overseas.

              • @dealz4all: Well the esim probably wouldnt work in australia either. I did see the roaming icon and see signal, so not like normally when a sim is ported and it goes to no signal. Dunno 🤷

  • Anyone have any experience porting from Telstra eSIM to Boost eSIM? I try to set up a new eSIM on the Boost app and select keep my number but it throws an error when trying to send a code. I’m in an upfront plan with Telstra.

  • Anyone able to convert to 5ber and esim by chance? My phone doesn't support esim..

  • +1

    There's been a technical problem
Something went wrong, please try again later

    :(

    • Have you fixed this yet? Has been happening for me for the past 3 days.

      • Still same error. Bit annoying wanted to get this done with

        • Did you get this resolved? Did you have to wait 48 hours after activation?

      • Did you get your issue resolved? If so, how?

        • thanks for reminding me
just tried it again now and it worked

          • @ChatCPT: Good to hear, did you contact support previously or it just worked by itself?

            • @FeZZa21: no action on my end just opened as per normal and didn't get an error this time.
Are you still getting that error?

            • @FeZZa21: Yup, worked 48 hours after the initial Sim activation

  • Quick question about esim: with esim available now does that mean if we are out of data with our plan we can just buy their 30days plan (with profit) and not having to pot in and out?

    • appears to be what many do with their profitable esim

  • Am I able to activate the eSIM, and put my physical sim into my nighthawk m2 permanently? And then still be able to use my phone (on eSIM) as per normal?

    • No, you can only pick 1, physicsl or esim.

Once it converts to esim physical will stop working.

      • +1

…..and further to this, the original physical Sim can be safely binned once activated as an eSim. One cannot move from eSim back to the original physical sim.
To transfer back to physical, one would need to grab a new unactivated $2 sim from the likes of Woolies, coles etc and transfer eSim across to it.

  • To Boost marketing team if you are monitoring this thread.

Please add your Boost app to other geography Apple store.
If you are a tourist and try to buy Boost esim, you cant even pull down the app which sync the esim profile down.

If that is too hard, just email the QR code to the customer email so we can scan it manually like what international player ie @SimsDirect or BillionConnect does.

  • Late to the thread but have Boost made it easy to transfer eSIM from one phone to another? I recently travelled and lost my physical Boost SIM on the plane. I thought ah transfer to eSIM and I'll be good but despite logging into the app, verifying all my details etc, they refuse to transfer to eSIM unless I could verify the SMS code sent to my number - which of course I didn't have. No option to verify via email or any other means. Anyway, moving forward, if I transfer to eSIM, I'm wondering if it'll be a pain to deal with Boost again every time I change phones or will I be able to just transfer via the app? Thanks.

    • +1

You will need to log on to the Boost app && active wifi (not data. Wifi!) for the esim transfer to work. In the app, they have option of sms or email for verification.

      • Thanks. Didn't give me option to verify via email. I tried the app, website, online chat and multiple phone calls. Also added family member as authority and asked them to visit a Telstra store and still got nowhere. Long story short but they were terrible. Anyway, thanks for your help. In terms of if and when I get my number transferred to eSIM, do Boost make it easy to transfer? I've been using eSIM's for a while but usually it's not easy to transfer to a new phone and as this is my primary number with Boost, I don't want to transfer to eSIM unless they make it easy to transfer between phones. Does anyone know if this can also be easily done via the app? Thanks.

        • You will need to logon first to boost app. If you forgot your password, its game over. Just void that boost number and port out.
Lots of inflexibility with their app.

          • +1

@bnh: Im logged in to the app. Yea very tempted to ditch boost at the moment but unfortunately I just paid for a year last month so either I lost the $200 or so or try and suffer through this. Can't believe how incompetent their team is. Spoken to 6 people now and they cant even do a sim swap for a lost simcard.

            • @ritzaus: Which number are you calling? Have you tried this?

              https://boost.com.au/blogs/help-topics/replacement-sim

              • @CodeXD: Thanks. Going through the correct options of replacing a lost SIM, the automated message then says you can do this via messaging from their app and then it says "One moment" and the call disconnects. Lol…meanwhile you go on their messaging app and they say that they cannot do it and to call them or use the app. Can't do it via the app as I don't have the SIM to verify the code. What a joke.

                • @ritzaus: their whole processes is a joke. i raised a complaint and case manager sends email saying he will try contacting me on tue what a joke no service or signal since i attempted to transfer my main number on Wednesday costing my money and lost calls. to do a sim swap you have to call during business hours thats looking like my only option but it will take time to receive a replacement sim. luckly i have one still to activate from cashback deal and will try to persuade them to reinstate my main number on it as this is unacceptable. i dont recommend not trying your main number transfer to esim as it hasnt worked on last 2 attempts and i tried on s21, pixel 7 iphone 15 all same error technical issue when trying to load telstra webpage to download esim. not sure whats causing it maybe is its my eero modem dns blocking it/?

  • trying for last few days, it keep giving error that something went wrong after it tries to go to telstra/boost website. Appreantly, it should come one with option to send PIN, but nothing. Boost chat no left, and asking to go to Telstra store. Restarted, reset network settings, and tried 2x IPHONES but same issue.

    • Isn't working for me either just comes up there's been a technical problem something went wrong, please try again later. My phone only has one sim slot and I've got a sim in it currently.
