Do AU Galaxy S24 Models Support Dual-eSIM?

I'm considering a new phone and want one that supports dual-eSIM. It's supported on the Pixel 8, and should be part of AOSP, but Samsung didn't bring it to the S22 or S23.

Now we're up to the S24, which does support dual-eSIM in at least some models. e.g. the UK specs page says:

SIM 1 + SIM 2 / SIM 1 + eSIM / Dual eSIM

But the AU specs page is missing the "SIM slot type" category completely.

Is anyone able to confirm whether AU S24 models support this?

it has one physical sim slot and one esim capability..so dual sim. I have S24+ Au edition.

That's not quite the same thing as dual-eSIM, where you can have two different eSIMs active at the same time. That's the bit I'm interested in - the S22 I currently have already does dual SIM but requires one of them to be physical, which reduces flexibility when traveling.

Are you saying your S24+ does not support dual-eSIM?

yep…one is physical , one is esim..but its not clear in the sim manager app how many esims you can add. If someone can locate 2 free esims I'll try to load them up and let you know!

My S20 ultra has 3 Esims added, 1 active at a time.
Most Esim phones allow upto 7 esims to be added.

OK..did the test on Galaxy S24+ Au edition… downloaded and installed 2 esims ( 2 different providers) and my physical sim already in place. Message pops up upon trying to install second esim " Maximum number of active sims reached. Turn off sim1 or esim 1 to use esim 2".

So you can load up multiple esims but you can only have active 2 sims at any one time ( any combination…sim + esim, or 2 x esim)

    • Thank you for testing! So if you disable SIM 1, it works fine with both eSIM 1 and eSIM 2 enabled? If so, that's great, exactly what I was looking for.

yep, sim 1 disabled, esim 1 and 2 still work

        • Perfect, thank you!

  • Does the S23 series also support dual active esim?

    • That's a good question. I confirmed last night that an S22 (Ultra) does not support it even with OneUI 6.0 / Android 14 installed. MEP support was initially added to Android 13.

Given that none of the S23 series launched with dual-eSIM support, I doubt they added it in the update. But I don't personally have one to test with.

    • does anyone know how many esims can the s23 hold?

      • It should hold at least 7 esims but unkown to me if only 1 active at a time, easy software/settings switch to which Esim is active, my S20U has 3 Esims stored on it.

    • It does not. I have 2 x esims (no physical sim) on my S23 ultra and it won't let me activate 2 esims at the same time.

Someone above confirmed it works on s24 so I'm hoping it is a software thing and I'll test it again when I get One UI 6.1

For another data point, I can confirm 2 active eSims is working on my S24 Ultra.

    • Thanks!

  • Yes.

However, overseas model S92xB/DS is even better. Dual physical SIM AND dual eSIM.
