  • Difficult to see any Western Digital branding on this. I wonder if WD bought out another SD company to get this product?

I guess the WD shucking issue does not matter any more - if the unit fails you don't have the option of trying a different controller (for any brand purchased).

I would like the 5TB model when it comes down a further 50%

SanDisk has been owned by Western Digital since 2016. So this can be considered WD but at the same time it falls into the SanDisk Professional product lines ("professional" gear for creatives https://www.westerndigital.com/en-au/brand/sandisk-professio…)

      • Didn't realise it was Sandisk. They seem to be going overly heavy on the G-Drive branding.

@OzyBe As per WD website: "G-DRIVE SSD from SanDisk Professional"

I wouldn't even consider shucking one of these, unless I was given the unit for free.

Sandisk tend to glue the SSD to the controller board nowadays.

  • The design reminds me of Lacie.

    • Hopefully much more reliable!

What a weird product with inconsistent branding. It's neither wd or sd.

  • The first thing that I thought was that it was some generic brand item.

  • Have one of these using Kriflyer points works super fast comes in SanDisk Box, and super fast via TB4/USB4, USB3.2, USB3.1 and TB3 pots as well as daisychained via a Terrmaster TD2TB3 DAS Hub WD Acronis software recognized it as WD SN550E 2TB NVM1.4Plus it stays super cool usually around 38 Celcius
That said I wouldn't fork out cash for this I only had to burn Krisflyer points before they expired Much better to buy a good 2TB NVME and a good USB 3.2Gen2 enclosure

    • @glyptothek Wouldn't a good 2TB NVME and a good USB 3.2Gen2 enclosure bundle cost more? Can you recommend any such?

      • Picked up a Maiwo K1719 USB4 Enclosure backward compatible from Banggood for $90 and 2x 2TB Team Cardea Z440 for $129 each from PC Case Gear

  • Google Drive at home

  • received an email today, they dont have stock of this and are offering refunds
