Wanted to crowd source experiences on cheap secondary SIM card to use with social media and other spam signups. Ideally a sim card I could load a few dollars to and keep it active to receive an occasional sms.

That's what I've done for iCloud and some other services
I use an Amaysim SIM as an easy/cheap secondary sim, $10/year PAYG. eSim compatible.
On occasion, one of those Boost Cashback SIMs for competitions/spam/random sign-ups, the number stays active for 6 months after your recharge expires

28 days to use the inclusions for that plan, disable auto-renew straight away and switch to PAYG near the end of your cycle (e.g. at day 23)

Yeah this is what I was confused about. I can buy a started pack like a $10 at woolies and convert to PAYG yes?

Next time there is a boost cashback deal on the $35 SIMs, purchase a few.
I have some which were activated in September 2023 still able to receive new SMS.
Can I just get a $5 Aldi sim card with PAYG?
