ID Required for All The 18+ Guests during Airbnb Booking

Is it weird for an Airbnb host to ask for an ID of each 18+ guest staying at the property? Everything looks normal in the house rules here except for the guest registration thing. I’ve never had to do this before when booking a place for a group. I am using Airbnb platform to book this house and Airbnb has my credit card details to charge for any damage.

Ask them for their privacy policy & see what happens to your ID after your visit too

    Never had that

Question. Have you had issues with your account in the past?

This may be an Airbnb flag that's been raised on your account.

I had something similar with doordash where I got an order refunded because the idiot driver dropped off the wrong order but then every future order I needed to sign for it.

Edit: is this Airbnb or the host? I wouldn't be giving any id directly to a host that's ridiculous. Can you say "identity theft" lol

Some airbnb management companies ask for ID prior to staying. I assume they do it to mitigate their risks. I try to avoid these companies now as i dont want them potentially insecurely storing my ID.

Where are you booking? In Australia, it's odd, but not weird. In many other countries, it is law that the details be collected and filed, so example Japan or Indonesia.

in Australia, companies collect your data and then it gets breached

as opposed to other countries where everything is securely stores and never breached? lol

Is this to check if you are bringing kids to see a Taylor Swift concert?

Lots of media reports about bookings being cancelled and relisted at much higher amounts.

  • Unless someone is law enforcement, then you do not need to provide id, just respectfully decline.

The only person who might need to provide id is the one who made the booking to prove you are the person who in fact booked the place.

    Weird - No
    Smart - Yes

If theres nothing to hide, why worry

They've probably had issues in the past with asshats causing havoc, and this will weed them out.

The host asking for ID definitely weird and I wouldn't hand my ID to them, if the AirBnB is the ones that is asking to complete the booking then I will comply.

  • Last Air BnB asked me for ID, I just skipped it, there was no issue. YMMV

  • If its over here then yes its weird but can be the law in other countries eg. Japan
