Harvey Norman Store Credit - How Does It Work?

I bought a secondhand NIU scooter from Facebook & last month it was faulty with the battery.

So, I went to HN and claim the warranty, after three weeks they called me that they don't have the same model. So they offer me to give me store credit worth $1988 (scooter price + product care value).

But they said i have to spend the credit all at once and I don't know what to do with that huge amount, I thought I can use some of the credit to buy something and keep the rest next time.

Just want to know, is that how store credit actually works?

  • is misleading for a seller to insist that a refund be issued as store credit.

Push for refund, explain original payment method is no longer active.

you sure i actually can get refund even I'm the 2nd owner? but they already close the dispute, what's your advice?

Second owner or did someone gift it to you 🤔

Try your luck escalating in store or online…probably a bit late now that you've accepted the initial remedy.

If you had purchased it directly from HN then the ACL would allow you to get a refund, but as you did not then you need to check out the HN terms and conditions to see what they are.

  • But they said i have to spend the credit all at once and I don't know what to do with that huge amount

Ask parents/family members if there's anything they've been looking to buy and offer them a discount if you buy it.

Otherwise, time to buy tv/laptop etc!

        HUGE mistake

        ?

He probably bought it at a big discount to the store credit he's getting.

Second hand and thought was covered like was buying new from HN.

@AndyC1: Agreed. If you don't have original payment mechanism for it to go straight back, it's store credit. Otherwise people will just arbitrage discounted gift cards, launder thefts, etc.

  • Just buy multiple things at the same time. No need to spend it all on a cool fridge.

Don't talk about how you bought it second hand, I think that just complicates the situation.

You have a receipt for an item purchased at Harvey Norman, that is still within its statutory warranty

They can either repair it, replace it or refund you. If they give you any other option, you should escalate. At least that's where u should start.

Alternatively, take the credit and sell it at a discount. You're probably still ahead if HN are refunding you the full amount of the original purchase when u bought it second hand

nope they will refund THE SAME CARD that was used to buy it in first place. or if its cash i guess its fine. but you need the other persons credit card im sure of.

Refunding back to the same card is a policy which nearly all businesses took onboard, just makes it easier for everyone, also prevents chargebacks. But it's not illegal to refund via a different method.

What happens if the card was stolen? What happens if the store doesn't have enough cash?

I have refunded many times to different cards and even refunded cash when our machine was down. Of course there needs to be manager or higher up approval and the customer needs to sign something it's by a different method.

Well, do you want a scooter or not?

If you bought the scooter to use it, then the obvious thing is to use the credit to buy a new one, it doesn't have to be exactly the same as the old one… or did you use it for a few weeks and are now over the scooter thing?…

    • Spot on.

Step 1: Obtain HN Store credit
Step 2: Buy an old model product for more than the RRP because that's what HN does
Step 2a: Buy extended warranty from HN because the sales person said it's a good deal and needs to get their quota up for the month
    Step 3: FU GERRY

      Step 3: 100% agree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Take the motor out and use it as a human powered scooter. Or just walk.

LOL So buys a 2nd hand product cheap as it was faulty, then claims warranty, only to complain they get a credit for the retail amount.

But they said i have to spend the credit all at once and I don't know what to do with that huge amount, I thought I can use some of the credit to buy something and keep the rest next time.

Maybe you know, buy the NIU scooter you wanted…..
