Hi everyone, I'm strictly a console gamer but Last Epoch being a PC only release is forcing my hand.

I'm on a very tight budget ($250 max) and thought OzBargain would be the best place to come for advice, and to see If my budget is even possible.

I just need a box that can play the game (Have KB&M and monitor) Happy with a refurb or used PC, and also can purchase a used video card seperately if need be.

Can you use something like GeForce Now?

  • OMFG I never knew such a thing existed and Last Epich is on the supported list.
    Thankyou!!!

    • Just be aware apparently it's a lil buggy

I've used it for FPS games and it's been fine.

        • I just want to be super clear that these are technically unsupported platforms still and they do have bugs that we don't have on our to-do list.

          • @spackbace: Seems like weasel words, they don't state the problems.

If you do need a computer, get a used one off eBay.

Also Apple offers 14 day returns for change of mind..

  • Its possible to meet minimun requirements.

Look on eBay for used "SFF" desktops - Dell, Lenovo, HP are pretty common.
Should find something with a 4th gen i5, 16GB RAM and an SSD for $150.
Most have 4 ram slots, and its cheap.

Then look for a 1050Ti LOW PROFILE, there are a few buy-it-now for under $100.

You need to check that the GPU will fit in the case, and that the PSU is up to it.

I have a Lenovo M92 with a 1050Ti, works great. Very small and very quiet.

Unless space is at a premium, it's generally better to go a 1070/1660ti and a bit larger desktop. Even a 1060 is about double the power of a 1050ti and costs about the same.

Last Epoch would be playable on a 1050ti but it's worth going a bit higher.

      • I had a quick look on eBay, a few 1050Ti for ~$80, 1070 for ~$150, 1660 for ~$200.

Agreed he should up his budget.

  • Thanks for the responses guys. As mentioned budget is a big constraint at the moment, and the GeForce Now seems to be the perfect solution.

    • Just a heads up - Geforce NOW isn't like gamepass where you can just play anything - it allows you to connect to your Steam library. So if you're wanting to play Last Epoch you need to own that on Steam.

I posted a deal from Fanatical this morning for 17% off the game if you're interested - this is a Steam key that will activate in Australia.

      • Yes I understand that. Thanks for the deal !

      • @jk82 I am completely new to PC gaming and just wondering about the deal with Fanatical. Am I purchasing a CD-Key that I can redeem in Steam to unlock Last Epoch ? I have decided to use GFN to play

        • Yep, that's right - the key you buy from Fanatical will unlock the game on your Steam account, so make sure you've created a Steam account and are logged in when you hit the redeem button.

If you're unsure just buy it directly through Steam - the benefit of going direct through Steam is that they offer a full refund if it's within 2 weeks of purchase date and you've played it for less than 2 hours. So if you find that Geforce Now isn't working too well, or if you just don't actually like the game - you'll be able to get your money back.

        • @JBucks if you ever do consider getting into PC gaming, $250 is probably a bit low for entry. You could grab something second hand but you'd be looking at switch level of performace - so low resolution, low detail and 30fps for most titles, and you likely wouldn't be able to play a lot of the latest AAA's comfortably. If you spend something equivalent to the price of a PS5/XSX you'd get a machine that is probably as powerful, maybe up to 2x more powerful than the consoles, but you've got flexibility - so if you want 60fps or 120fps you can change your other settings to hit that target, instead of being locked into "performance mode" or "quality mode". And of course - keyboard and mouse support for all titles. And access to all the sweet, sweet PC game sales!! check historical low's here https://gg.deals/ Generally on new releases there's places like Fanatical that will do 17% off so I never pay full price for a game. And the seasonal Steam sales are just crazy.

Here's an idea of a machine you could get for around the $900 mark that would probably be around double the performance of the PS5/XSX

And yes you can plug it into a TV and set Windows to start Steam in "Big Picture Mode" which essentially turns it into a PC-Console!
I used to be a console only gamer but switched to PC gaming a couple of years ago and I'm loving having one library with ALL my games! I wasn't sure if I'd like it but it's actually awesome, so much better than having a PS5, XSX and Switch, with games all over the place. Coupled with a Steam Deck I can play my entire library anywhere I want - it's awesome!! :)

  • Thanks for all the comments guys, I've gone with the GeForce Now option and couldn't be happier for $10 a month.
