Volkswagen Welcome Hub / Volkswagen Welcome Experience

VW Australia announced a new service called the Welcome Experience or Welcome Hub in December 2022. More details about what it does can be found on this article.

I wanted to see if anyone has had any personal experience with this new service and how they found it. In particular I am keen to know the following:

  1. Was it real-time for you?
  2. When did you receive your 1st notification? Was it the day your car hit the assembly line or after the car was built and ready for transport?
  3. What kind of notifications did you receive? Was it only cargo ship location once the car was loaded onto the ship or were you receiving updates as the car progressed through the assembly line?
  4. How accurate were the dates quoted via the Welcome Hub vs. reality?
  5. At what stage did you get the VIN number for the car?

I've had a new car on order for quite some time now and the dealership told me it is being built this week, but I am yet to receive any notification. It's been quite a challenge to get any information so keen to start seeing my order via this Welcome Hub.

Thanks.

    Trash like the car

OK so you have a personal experience with this or are you just giving your opinion?

I mean, VW in general is trash. Not sure why you'd order/wait in line to buy one.
Ozbargain has many examples where these eurotrashmachines have capitulated.

Opinions are like <<you know what>>. Everyone has one. Just because you don't think much about a car manufacturer doesn't mean others think the same as you.

          • @D1977: Ummm their market share agrees

It's effectively fallen off a cliff. Can't really get a car more unsuited to Australian conditions.

VW's are going the same way as Nokia.
Porsche, Lamborghini, and somewhat Audi are the only one's likely to stay afloat.

@Drakesy: I could not care about their market share. I am not buying stock,

              • @D1977: Famous last words have been said previously…
                And then Nokia folded.

@Drakesy: Look, people are entitled to have their own opinion. I came here to the forums looking for some information from someone who has had personal experience with this new service. I didn't come here to get slagged off for my choice in what car I buy.

I thought the forums were supposed to be a place where people can get useful information, but on this occasion it just seems not to be the case.

Lets be honest this is Ozbargain not whirlpool :)

@Drakesy: I sold my Golf R to a dealership about 2 months ago. Since I sold it to them, they've dropped the price by 8k and still haven't been able to sell the car. They're only 2k off what they paid me. Food for thought.

              • @beyonddd: Yeah,
The secondhand market is fairly saturated let alone buying brand new.

Have a friend who bought a 2014 GTI, has had it for a total of 2 months. It's currently been in the mechanics for one of those and no ETA in sight, issues with the turbo and developed a misfire. He's looking forward to dumping it asap.

@D1977: VWs are also like <<you know what>>. Except no one has one anymore lol

          • @D1977: Volkswagen are a criminal organisation, why would you give them the time of day let alone your money?
You want proof of being a trash company? Her it is

Why? "Welcome experience"! What a crock of sh… purely a marketing attempt at creating some sort of buzz around waiting for a vehicle. Its just a way for the manufacturer to promote the idea that you only build a car that someone has paid for up front.

    • Maybe its a VW 'Welcome to your wallet' experience.

I purchased a VAG vehicle last year and helped my parents who recently purchased VW Tiguan.

    Was it real-time for you?

We were never informed of the Welcome Hub.

When did you receive your 1st notification? Was it the day your car hit the assembly line or after the car was built and ready for transport?

Weekly updates from the sales reps at the dealership.

What kind of notifications did you receive? Was it only cargo ship location once the car was loaded onto the ship or were you receiving updates as the car progressed through the assembly line?

One vehicle had to be shipped from Europe and the other was already in country at customs.

How accurate were the dates quoted via the Welcome Hub vs. reality?

Never used Welcome Hub. Personally, I'd prefer an update from a real person that I can contact and hold to be responsible.

At what stage did you get the VIN number for the car?

Immediately at time of decision to buy for both.

I'd imagine the process may differ for 100% EV/BEV vehicles.

    • Thank you for the info. I was told via an email directly from VW Australia that I will receive updates via the VW Welcome Experience so I am hoping it is just a matter of timing for me to start receiving these. My car is being build this week (in Germany).
