Etihad Restricts Business & First Class Reward Seats for Velocity Members

As quoted by AFF and One Mile at a Time.

Etihad will now restrict partner reward availability in Business and First Class cabins to 30 days prior to departure as a result of high load yields in previous months. This includes Virgin Australia, Air Canada, American Airlines and others.

Just be wary when transferring points from credit card providers if you are intending to fly EY J/F.

  • Yes we're gradually getting squeezed out of partner awards…

  • Thanks AF. I've always valued SQ/QR J over EY J so this won't change anything. Having said that, what are the chances of having EY J open up from Europe to Australia via Velocity. Planning for around October and wondering if I should wait till the last min.

    • October doesnt seem like a big issue, you'll just need to be on standby 30 days prior when the seats could be released

    • Sorry, what do these stand for?

Set up an alert on pointsyeah.com so you can pounce if one does open up.

Wow that is shocking. People plan on booking rewards seats a year out. 30 days is ridiculous, and I doubt any reward seats would even be left for Velocity members within 30 days of a departure.

    • That's the catch!

Its not just Velocity members, this applies to all partner reward programs
