According to someone on reddit who claimed they edited 3e

2e has a lot of balance and rules issues, which even a casual dive into this sub will confirm.

3e solves those issues, removes rules arguments, and has better art and components.

I have 2e and don’t think it was too bad - most of the people I played it were super casual. I think it’s a great game but can get a bit of a long slog depending on the scenario you get and your team. Worth a look at $20 for sure. I paid something crazy like $60 back in the day.

Unfortunately, board games (and war games) are very expensive now that the Australian dollar is weak and shipping from America has increased over the last 10 years (though Amazon Australia have some of the more popular ones in stock which greatly reduces shipping0.. If you live in a larger town or a city you should be able to find Board Game groups to spread the games around. Social experience like board gaming (and cards, and ballroom dancing) ought to be encourage to increase bonds between people in our atomistic society (I was reading about the term 'anomie' earlier).

        • As a board games collector, I fear for my finances everytime the BGG meta changes..

      • For $20 I agree it might be worth a look but I personally wouldn't call it a great game.

In my opinion, the game relies too much on purely random timing of the haunts (and some of these are better than others) and can result in a pretty average gaming experience for the hour or two it might make take to play the game. Or it might be a good experience! This reliance on randomness feels like the fairly old school mechanic that reflects the age of the first edition of the game.

Having said that, it is $20. If you think it might work for you why not give it a go?
