LG GRAM- i5 1340P/16GB LPDDR5 Is This a Good Buy for $1699

Was looking for a lightweight laptop for work use- primarily use office applications. Came across the LG GRAM 16 with i5 and seems to a good price at Computer Alliance/MWave/Scorptec.

Any guidance if this is a good buy? Also cant find anything on extended warranty and no idea about how good LG are in terms of service. Any thoughts will be appreciated.

14th gen (2024) were recently revealed so these will be end of life soon.

I've used one before and it's fine for your use case, got some getting used to having the numpad on there too.

Downside was no fingerprint sensor, a few issues with Bitlocker being triggered randomly and I found the LG webcam features pretty useless so just turned them off.

That's not how it works, older gen processors do not just go to end of life when a new gen is release.

For example Gen 9 Intel® Core™ i5-9400 is discontinued but Gen 10 Intel® Core™ i5-10400 is still in Launched status.

      • I meant as in eol for retailers, so they'll start to clear out stock and heavily discounted.

    • The next gen CPU used in laptops like this hasn't been announced. Meteor Lake-P will likely be the replacement, the other new CPUs are either too low or too high in power window.

Naming is seriously bonkers though, for example the top CPU of each line that Intel announced:

Raptor Lake-HX Refresh is Core i9 14900HX, Raptor Lake-U Refresh is Core 7 150U, Meteor Lake-U is Core Ultra 7 165U (which is low power, the ultra low power is Core Ultra 7 164U) and Meteor Lake-H is Core Ultra 9 185H.

LG could stick whatever the hell they like in a new Gram laptop if they wanted to, no one would know that it's not technically the next generation.

If weight your priority then it's not bad. I wouldn't bother with any new chips etc if the package is already suitable, 13th gen Intel is very powerful for office applications.

  • Thanks for the inputs!

  • Any guidance on service?

  • I recently got a 11th gen i5 14" for $550 new. It weighs 960 grams.

    • how?

      • When Amazon had all the crazy deals a few months ago.

  • Did you end up purchasing this laptop? I'm looking for something similar and was wondering if you were happy with it/the price?
