Suggestion for a HDMI Switcher to Use Multiple PC’s with One Monitor?

Hi

I have a monitor with single HDMI. I use a couple of different PCs depending on if it’s work, personal, or a pc im fixing.

I have a HDMI switcher which has a single button the flip between inputs however it automatically detects if a pc is connected. If a pc sleeps or turns off monitor when it wakes the box doesn’t recognise it and won’t allow me to connect to it.

I’ve had to set my pcs not to hibernate-sleep or turn off monitors.
Can someone suggest a a device that will work? Maybe mines faulty.

  • Can't you just wake the computer and then press the button the switch?

    • What a joke. My entire post lost because AE or Kogan or one of the links incorporated something in it.

Basically, the box determines what’s connected and the button only allows you to toggle between those devices. If it doesn’t recognise the pc is connected after rebooting etc then that port of the box is not selectable.

  • Sometimes the brute force approach - which in this case would be another monitor for the other computer - saves enough aggravation that it works out better.

    • A portable monitor or lapdock could be a good approach.

I use a lapdock to set up computers, raspberry pis, etc.

    • This was the previous set up but the office has become a bedroom and I have one of those old school pc desk with the wheels I can wheel between rooms. It’s the hutch style and 74cm wide :-)

  • You could get some sort of edid minder to keep the connection active
