Cruise ship eSIM

Is there an eSIM that can be used while on a cruise at sea? The ships wifi is expensive and I’m hoping for a cheaper option. Thanks

Anything on a good network in the country you're visiting. I used a SEA eSim on a cruise out of Singapore with no issues.

Be aware, only works while in range of land. Will not work in the middle of Java Sea for example

    • Thanks, I’m looking for something at sea, away from land. I guess I’ll just buy a day or 2 of the ships wifi. I don’t need it the whole time, just to touch base at home once a week.

      • The only thing that works at sea is the ships network via their satellite connection (most are on Starlink now).

Be aware daily rates much more expensive. There are often loopholes onnship wifi.

For example - on HAL, Google's accessible anytime, which means Gmail 😉

        • hmmmmmm. anything google?
Is there a way to browse the web through google? (that is not unblocked)

(Other than of amp enabled websites or Translate)
I'm assuming google public cloud wouldn't work.

just to touch base at home once a week.

Assuming the cruise will stop somewhere at least once a week, could you just go to a shop/cafe/bar/Maccas when in port and use the internet there?

        • We have 8 sea days in a row. I really just want to contact my kids once or twice in that period. We have esims for all our port stops.

@chloden: Ok, I think paying for a day's internet might be your only option then (although not entirely sure if you can get the internet for just one day).

Why do you need to tiktok while crusing 🤓.

Also, afaik, esim or anything requires mobile coverage. Unless ship has installed any of those cellular antennas (except for ship’s wifi) you won’t get any in the middle of the sea.

No I don’t need it for TikTok, it’s for my OnlyFans account.

Unless you provide which cruise ship route, no one can help you as sim cards are divided by regions. There is no sim card that will work for every continent.

    • As I said, it’s for at sea. And the responses so far are saying I won’t be able to get it at sea.

        Can you be more pacific?

  • Have you looked into a satellite case for your phone? This may not be cost effective although you haven’t provided the costs for wifi on your ship so I can’t comment on this.

It’s important to note speeds will be relatively slow using a satellite phone case connection.

Why not just switch off? It's a holiday after all.

  • Is there an eSIM that can be used while on a cruise at sea?

Nope…. Its Cellular at Sea service. Everyone who connects to the mobile service on the ship, treats it as a roaming service.

The ships wifi is expensive and I’m hoping for a cheaper option. Thanks

The ships wifi is cheap compared to data roaming on the Cellular at Sea service!

    which ship?

    • Yeah, I can see that the ships wifi is going to be the better option.

We did a cruise recently and I searched for this and since the ship is in international waters - its only Satelite connection and going on your own with a single connection will be expensive and also very slow. The ship has decent internet.
I bought a TpLink Travel router AC750 and hotspotted 6 of us on the cruise off 1 connection which I bought. I had to clone the connection onto the Hot Spot to make it work - ONly problem was had to carry the small router (hooked to a small battery pack) everywhere. Wasnt too bad as I had rubber banded the battery pack to the router - they are the same size. Hope this helps.

Thanks for that info. I’ll pass that onto my husband..you lost me at router.

    • Is this a better option than say using your phones Bluetooth to share internet? And or strapping a battery to your phone instead of a separate router?
