Not really on sale it's the same price as JB, Amazon, $1 cheaper at HN and $445 at Mobilciti if you use their discount code.

You can also get another $10 off on DJI's ebay store.

(Can you tell I've been trying to shop for one?)

      It's showing me even cheaper;419$

      • Which code?

          • @Depesh Khadka: Couldnd get this code to work, any idea?

            • +1

@ky1975: It's a targeted code, it won't work for anyone else.

  • Any good deals on the OA3? will be mainly used for snorkling and I do not need the crazy 4K slowmo…
Or should I get the v4?

    • +1

      $320 @ jbhi-fi, DJI etc

      • Good price actually, cheaper than FB marketplace's

    • just get the 4.

    • +2

The 4 has the way better low light capability- which while good at night is also awesome underwater!

    • I've been reading up on the Action 4, and one feature I really like is its ability to record in log mode.
I'm leaning towards going for the 4 because of that.

  • In a different post someone warned the android app is terrible and potentially even needs to be side-loaded to fix issues.

The main reason I'm not considering the action 4 over the insta360 ace series

    • +2

Yeah the insta360 app is better, but only if you need its superior editing capabilities on your phone. The dji mimo app is only really required for product registration and firmware updates and you don't need to touch it again.

FWIW, I'm on Android and have had no issues with installing the mimo app or connecting to the pocket 3.

      • Sorry to go on a tangent - any idea if this app is also for insta360 go 3?

        • +1

Yeah the app is used for all insta360 cameras including go 3

  • Are these any good? I have a few dji drones and those cameras are amazing so I assume this is the same features?

    • I took the plunge on an OM4 and it’s been great. Camera quality is awesome out of the box, magnetic connector is a revelation and user interface is pretty much the same as GoPro. Yes you need the app to setup and for firmware upgrades but that’s it.
I think they are underrated and people are just more comfortable with buying GoPro.
I bought a sandisk extreme pro memory card.

      • does it shoot in Delog mode like the drones can do? I colour grade all footage on my drones and Delog mode is very important for me, shoots in a neutral colour so its easier to colour grade.

  • the video quality is amazing, much better than gopro. Highly recommend getting this for the image quality.

just came back from a trip to philippines where i did a lot of snorkeling and free diving with the OA4. Just the 1 video swimming with couple of turtles is worth the money. Image quality was so crisp and sharp with setting on 4k/120fps, the video was a nicer watch than in real life!

Only concern I have is the lens cover which is screwed on with an o-ring. Understand it's more flexible for different lens/covers but psychologically makes me worry a bit each time i take the camera down to ~10m depth. Maybe need to invest in the underwater housing :D

    • What's the battery life like on the OA4?

      • realistically, i think it's around 1 hour of recording and not the claimed 160 mins. This is probably because the default screen shut off time is after 5 mins of recording which is very long. Haven't figured out how to change that yet.

        • Swipe down for control menu, choose gear icon (settings), choose 'Scrn off When Rec' and set to anything down to 3 seconds.

      • It’s better than the GoPro. In a single block recording I have never got close to claimed battery life on GoPro or DJI. But in normal use for me (15-20min bursts) it gets around two hours.

    • Hey, have you ever taken stills underwater with the camera on the OA4? If so, does it produce pleasing quality images?

  • Hey ozbargainers. I’m in the market for a new action cam. Mainly for travel vlogs etc. I’m very keen on the dji action 4 but was wondering if the other models would be better eg go pro hero 12 or insta360 ace pro? Cheers

    • In the past 12 months I've used Hero 11, Hero 7, Action 4, and Garmin Virb, and looked at some of the 360 cameras.
360 cameras look cool, but I spend enough time editing footage and I dont want more effort for simple use cases (motorsport, swimming with the kids, boat).
Hero's are all fine/good. Some minor annoyances (eg mic adapter doesnt always work - work around is to turn camera on, then start recording) and have had overheating issues on the 11.
Garmin Virb is surprisingly good to use - I liked the physical power switch on the case, and the quality is better than most cameras of similar age.
The Action 4 is my goto these days. Interface is the same as the others, but its easy to use, and most importantly, solid and reliable. I like the magnetic mount on it more than I thought I would - very efficient and I wish gopro would follow suit. Digital zoom is good, better quality than I thought it would. Video quality is just about on par, though I have had people look at the quality and say it was super clear - I like it.

In the end? All much of a muchness. My only comment is to not go with the default GoPro route, and look at options as there will be little things you will prefer, and at the end of the day the image quality is much of a muchness.
