Best Car Sharing Options out There

I've got a 2010 Alfa Romeo 159Ti in good nick.

I was looking at selling it, but a friend suggested I put it up for Carshare and make money from it that way.

There are a few options out there including Uber Carshare and Turo and I was wondering if anyone's got experience using them and what costs are involved and whether it's worth sharing it rather than selling it?

Lol surely you jest. You want to rent out an a 14 year old Alfa, most likely a selespeed? The repair bills will exceed the rental earnings by a hundred fold.

    • My thoughts exactly! Put something that can be repaired with a shoestring on a car share app, not a 14YO Alfa

    • yes but then the repair fees are a tax deduction

Perfect time to sell it then, could be a year or so away from the wreckers depending on its history and kms.

It's likely too old to qualify for any of them, so that should be the first thing you checked. It will get trashed. I've rented a few, all covered in dings, scratches and scuffs or worse. It's unlikely to last long enough to recover what you could have up front from selling.

  • Drug addicts love the car sharing platform

@jv: Albo thinks they will vote more likely for him…….

  • Definitely don't put it on a car sharing site, read around forums and facebook groups for the horror stories.

  • Rent it out, make some money and, because it's an Alfa, the first repairs you will need on it will completely wipe out whatever money you've made(and probably more!)!

  • Like most of these crowd sourcing platforms the pnly ones that 'make money' from it are the platforms. You wont get any 'profit' just offset some of your costs and end up with a trashed car.

Remember, with car sharing, mechanical car damage due to user's negligence is not covered under car sharing insurance.

Join australian car sharing groups on Facebook and have a browse first. If you still decide to follow through, make sure you set it up well so nothing comes biting you in the end, i.e. car insurance, tolls, maintenance and parking.
