Vivino 4.0

Region: McLaren Vale

Vineyards: This Shiraz is a blend of three different McLaren Vale vineyards. The Lower Tintara vineyard was originally planted by Thomas Hardy in the 1880s and is located on Kays Road in the Blewitt Springs sub-region of McLaren Vale - this block of Shiraz was planted 20 years ago. The Conte vineyard is on Sand Road and these vines are now 60 years old. The Klaveniek vineyard Shiraz vines are 20 years old and is located on McMurtrie Road.

Soils: The Lower Tintara vineyard is on sandy loam soils called Maslin Sands, which are between 34 and 56 million years old. The Conte Shiraz is planted on sand over clay from the Ngaltinga Formation (10,000 to 2.6 million years old). The Klaveniek vineyard is on Biscay soils from the Kurrajong formation (10,000 to 2.6 million years old).

Winemaking: Small batch open fermenters, 15 months in 15% new and 85% seasoned French oak.

Nose: The nose offers complex aromas of plums, dark fruits, dried herbs and hints of mint.

Palate: The palate is bright and textural with dark berries, plums and subtle spices, complemented by an elegant and lengthy finish.

Cellaring: Drink now to 2029

  • Probably Pertaringa Undercover Shiraz - Consistent performer and a good buy at this price.

    • @BigBin Good guess. Ran out of labels on previous vintage. There's only about two pallets…. so swing away :-)
This vintage rated 4.0 on Vivino.
      Cheers! RD :-)

      • Couldn't you get the two Bec's to sign each bottle and double their value?

        • Ah ha. We’d put a label on them first.
I did a wine dinner in China last year. I had to sign 3,000 bottles before the dinner. I was knackered! RD :-)
