Woolworths Gave Me Far Lesser Quality / Quantity Substitute

Hey guys, not sure if there is a body / organisation that deals with complaints with grocery stores or if it's just Dept of Fair Trading and ACCC.

I have 2 orders, in one some products were substituted for similar type but far less quantity (about 30-40% less) and i would say not as good a product but not terrible either and they reckon it adheres to their policy which is meant to be of similar product of equal or higher quality and quantity. The other product is far less quality product with lower quality ingredients and really for a different purpose to the original product I ordered.

In my second order, some of the similar issues as the first order but also its missing some of the items that were meant to be the substitutes and instead it's got a completely different type of product which is a lot cheaper than the substitute or my original product.

Anyone know which company is the best to go to for complaints and dealing with grocery stores? Or do people recommend a credit card chargeback which is what a friend recommended to me (I think though one of the orders was using gift card for most of the payment).

  • I feel like this a good opportunity for an airtasker. Get a personal grocery shopper. Pay a bit more for premium consistent service. I feel soon Australia is gonna become a butler country and hire people for dirt cheap to deliver food. Uber maid service around the corner.

Otherwise boohoo OP, can’t expect low paid teenagers to do the shopping for you, Woolworths the fresh out of school people…

  • Why not just return for refund the items you don’t want, and complain via online feedback if you feel so aggrieved.

Or you could aim for the sky and try and bring on the collapse of a corporate behemoth by posting your disdain all over social media and forums.

    • The online support never said I could , they also weren't willing to admit that I was missing 5 items that were were listed on their order. But I will be returning it once one of the useful commenters on here told me that I could go to a store and do it. I thought since it was online, only online support could authorise it.

      • "I spent close to a week on online and email support"

The online support never said I could

Very first item in the Woolsworths Returns FAQ….lol

    • Come now… Why refund the items when you can draw the whole process out by months and contact the Department of Fair Trading, bank to initiate a charge back and the ACCC??

  • The options are:
    1) Woolworths has a problem
    2) The OPs expectations are the problem

  • I’ve never known anyone who thought it was a good idea to substitute Parsley for Coriander…

Online chat even tried to push back on it.

I turn off substitutions for everything…

    • +1

If it looks the same, it probs taste the same mentality. Buy vodka gets subbed for Spring Water :(

Did they give you the woke version of the product?

  • If you've already made a complaint and the outcome is unsatisfactory, just stop using their online delivery service. I was not very impressed with Coles or Woolies online delivery during covid - low quality fresh food, milk that expired in like two days, and sometimes entire orders cancelled last minute due to lack of staff.

I don't know if much has changed since then, but I concluded it's better to just do the shopping yourself.
