Brilliant.org Premium - NGN ₦41555/Year (~A$40.98, Normal A$195) - VPN Required

630

Thanks to the Nigerian exchange rate (or whatever it is), I just subscribed to the brilliant.org premium, which costed NGN ₦41555 after 20% discount (if you couldn't see this 20% discount, please login to Youtube first, on the same browser session). My bank charged A$40.98 for that.

The lifetime subscription (I could only see it after having paid the yearly) is showing as NGN ₦260000 (~A$250). Let's see how our usage after 1y.

  • Thank you very much for sharing, this is a fantastic app but usually pricey

      • Damm,
The VPN I used (tunnel bear) didnt have Argentina :-(

      Brilliant!

      • sponsored by youtube (whoop the other way around)

  • what vpn did you use? im only getting 4,328.68/m billed annually.. tried youtube first also

    • I used TunnelBear

      • thanks friend i got it working

    • it showed TRY 1767/year for me.
How do I get TRY 580 price, please?

  • Do you need VPN only for registration or also when you are using the app?

    • +1

No, VPN is only needed when subscribing to their premium plan. Registration, usage, and even completing the payment can be done without VPN

  • Is this worthwhile to sign up?

  • I've never heard of this in my life and I have barely any math or computer science knowledge. Is there any use for this? Even maybe as a mental/learning exercise.

    • +3

I have barely any math or computer science knowledge. Even maybe as a mental/learning exercise.

It’s probably not for you. It’s for people with a passion for problem solving in this space and learning. if you’re just trying to find something to pass time there should be some other fun apps.

      • What about those who used to have a passion forath and comp sci but hasn't taken a degree and wants to do software engineering?

        • +1

They have free account tier with limited access, so why not go through with some of the topics and find out? If you want to learn SE as a career path I'm pretty sure there are more straight forward ways out there.

    • Maybe try Peak then? It's fun to play. However the premium is rather expensive. It is on iOS and Android only, and I've never seen anyway to have cheap subscriptions

Worth getting this If you have LinkendIn?

    • It's a completely different thing. Also, I have a feeling my LinkedIn is becoming Facebook :-|

      • becoming

        It’s worse than that 😂

    • Why the down vote? Might have meant Linked In Learning?

  • +8

I've used @mtr advise and signed up through Argentina using 20% discount - the annual price was ~14,134 Arg peso (~$26 AUD).
One thing that may be useful to others - the checkout page was stuck forever until I turned off the VPN. After that I was able to finish the checkout and it still showed the Arg prices.

So use VPN to sign up but then turn it off in the checkout page.

  • @Averell, do you have to cancel the 7 day free trial after registration, and then pay the annual plan straight away?
Or did you just let the 7 day trial elapsed, and it automatically charged you at the NGN41555 ($40.98) /Year?
I was thinking if they charge later, they could charge AU subscription price? due to the card payment origin is AU?

    • I didn't have trial recently, so went straight to premium. I've been using the free account for years, and don't remember whether I had ever trialled

      • Hi @Averell, is your premium going fine so far?
I had to sign up with a new account. The payment finally went through, and it was not declined. However, after the 7-day trial ended, they emailed me that the payment was declined. I tried to pay with all my cards (28D, Citibank, MeBank, Coles), but all were declined (I tried through VPN locations in Argentina & Australia). I have cancelled my subscription, but I can still access the premium content. I guess I just have to wait until they forcefully disable my premium access.

Please share what you have to do if yours is going alright…

        • Yes, i was still using it last night. I didn't have trial though - went directly to the purchase.
I didn't need to do anything else after the purchase.

          • @Averell: So bizarre… I tried to use my existing account, but everything was declined… I had to sign up with a new account, and the payment went through, but then now this happened again after the trial ended… 🥲

  • Getting declined for multiple card - both CC & Debit card, tried Argentina and Ukraine.

    • I'm getting the same, though I tried gifting a lifetime membership it to an existing account.

    • +1

I used latitude 28°, went through the first try

      • For the annual subscription right? I'm purchasing the lifetime.

        • how do you get to lifetime sub option - i'm only getting annual

    • I used UP card with no problems

      • Not working with my Up card. Did you use desktop or mobile?

        • desktop

      • Tried up and ubank, both declined for lifetime Argentina sub.
EDIT: Please let me know if you got it to work and what method :)

        • I’m assuming you had the required funds in your account using debit card ?

          • @Maxdax: Yeah, used desktop and Argentinian VPN.

    • Same, tried BankWest and Commbank both didn't work. Tried on desktop.

So who are the primary users of this?

    • +2

My son mostly. He started using that since around year 5, and had always been using the free one. He's now in year 9.
Not sure whether he'll keep the interest after having the premium.
      Myself also use it, occasionally

  • +1

Bought the lifetime package when they first introduced it. Well worth it.

    I’m in late 30s.

    • Can I asked how useful it is for you?

      • +1

I like to learn new things in a fun way and this serves me that. It’s all grouped into bite sized pieces and doesn’t take weeks or months reading some theory books and author’s lifestory to get introduced into a topic.

It’ll provide good enough knowledge to get introduced and started on a topic but if you want to become an expert on the subject, you should put in time on your own like with any other subject.

    • how much was it when you bought it?

      • It’s been about 6+ years. I can’t remember the exact number but I recall it was roughly the cost of 5 years worth of annual subscription.

  • +1

How do we get the lifetime subscription? There is no such option when signing up.

Tried to gift lifetime subscription with the same 28° card but got rejected.

    • How do we get the lifetime subscription? There is no such option when signing up.

      From the OP post:

The lifetime subscription (I could only see it after having paid the yearly) is showing as NGN 260000 (~ $250). Let's see how our usage after 1y.

    • +1

You have to buy it as a gift for yourself. No other way from memory.

  • Does it have much content for learning LLM - AI ?

  • Real debris plus stremio instant savings of the amount of this purchase

    • How?

      • You can't.

You wouldn't use stremio or RD for Elearning, and that's for static content.

For Interactive content like this? You're better off buying this deal. Unless you want to deal with shady Russians (~$20 per year).

  • Only $2.6 pm so $36 or so for Argentina, lifetime is $147 AUD

    • Unfortunately was unable to replicate by buying a monthly sub. Might have to be a year or maybe had to have signed up prior to the price change :(

    • ahhh, the current TL price for an annual sub is 1763.73. thats about as much as you paid for your yearly sub

  • +2

can't buy lifetime. They only give you option to sub monthly/yearly.

Only way is to gift a lifetime plan at https://brilliant.org/give-premium/
but it fails with Argentina VPN/address. CC comes back declined.
    Argentina is $150AUD lifetime
    Australia is $700 AUD lifetime
    Turkey is $500AUD lifetime.

      • +1

That link will only take 20% off monthly/yearly sub. They remove the lifetime option. You can only "gift" lifetime subs, and has been locked down hard to prevent abuse. I was able to signup to monthly/yearly subs using Argentina VPN without issue. There is also no option to upgrade to lifetime after you're a paying subscriber (perhaps after the 7 trial period is over they might offer lifetime upgrade path ???)

        • +1

did you signup for yearly plan or monthly plan via argentina?
people have been saying that the lifetime option only appears after signing up for a yearly plan.

  • Used turkey with new email for annual. Lifetime option is shown after successful under Gift for TRY 10500 which is no deal. Will continue with annual and see if lifetime deal comes up in future.

      • I'm pretty curious as to what link it gave you when checking out.
        The normal premium page is:
        https://brilliant.org/premium

        The AWE annual deal is:
        https://brilliant.org/checkout/20

The lifetime option has two checkouts:
        https://brilliant.org/checkout/21
        and,
        https:/checkout.brilliant.org/c/pay…

Or did you change plans through your subscription settings?

@samjacksonau, I'd be interested to see if any of the above options make a difference for you. You probably can't test it if you are still in the trial though.

  • FYI, Revolut worked for Argentina. Thanks.

    • +1

Did it work for trial or you paid for the annual subscription?
My UP card was accepted fine at the start of the trial, but now I'm not able to pay for the subscription. Tried Revolut/UP/Wise cards, all declined

      • I got exactly the same problem.

  • 28 degrees worked for me (annual membership). When I tried gifting myself the lifetime membership, I got a 'Unable to process payment' with the 28 degrees card and a 'Card has been declined' with another card.

    • Not sure why mine got declined, did you enter Australia for the country field?

      • +1

Mine was declined with 28 degrees.
Created a new Brilliant account and it worked first try with 28 degrees and Argentina as country field.

I'm guessing it's because I already used the free trial in Australia thats why I had to make a new account

        • Did you get the lifetime option? I think they've clamped down on the lifetime option its not possible anymore unless you want to fork out the $700

          • @bindok: I think lifetime only shows up if you have a current subscription.

I seem to have forgotten my email and password that I used so I can’t check right now 😅😂

      • +1

Yes I did, I selected Australia as country. I see some people in comments saying the country field can be Argentina.

        • I got declined on previous attempts so I thought maybe it was because I selected Australia, but now I can see that country did not matter, I just needed a new account.

    • I got decline with lifetime too.

    • yeh the lifetime is locked down. you can use vpn with monthly/annual but not lifetime.

  • whats the youtube link to get the 20% discount?

when you go to deal it goes here - https://brilliant.org/

  • I can confirm that I had to sign up with a new account for my 28D card not to decline the annual subs with Argentina selected. Unfortunately gifting myself the lifetime subs was declined…

  • Can anyone got lifetime subscription recently, if so how?

  • +1

If you try to cancel before trial ends it's going to offer you a 30% discount, 1 year for ARS12,367.47 Price Proof

    • Strange, it really did cancel for me. But I was allowed to renew.

      • Were you guys able to pay the annual plan in ars?

        • Unfortunately no.

  • tried to buy lifetime sub, but no cards work CBA/UP/Bankwest/Amex

  • Can anyone subscribing via Argentina confirm that after 7 day free trial, they automatically charged you in ARS (Argentina annual subscription Price), instead of Australian annual subscription price?

    • +1

I got payment declined after trial end.

    • Me four… :-(

    • Did anyone else who's gone through the 7-day free trial get an email from them to ask to update payment? I tried all the cards, and all were declined… I tried to cancel, but somehow, it was not cancelled… (I can still access all the premium content). Then today I received their "2nd notice…" so far, was afraid to reply in case they found out about the use of a VPN 😅

      • Same, I deleted my account after 1st email but got 3rd email today.

  • Anyone found a card that's accepted for annual subscription in Argentina? After the trial ended.

  • +1

If you have an Apple ID from Turkey, and are visiting Australia, try signing up for the Brilliant app on your iPhone. 599 TL ($30 AUD) for a year after the 1 week trial. Worked for me.

    • I tried creating a new Apple ID with Turkey VPN, but I couldn't sign up when they asked for a phone number (where I added an Aussie number…) I want to get the premium subs, but they are so expensive… 🥲

      • I remember using the following service when I needed a temporary overseas mobile numbers for SMS activation. It worked well for me at the time. Like a lot of these services I strongly suggest using a low balance Debit Card or a Virtual Credit card generated from the likes of Zip for payment.
