Recommendations for a Stubby Pressure Washer Gun

Hello Fellow OzBargainers.

I'm looking to up my game by getting a short, stubby, pressure Washer (PW) gun with an inbuilt swivel. I have a Gerni 4000 pw with its default attachments.

Everything on YT talks about products from the USA. After watching a multitude, the hottest ones seem to be (in no order)

  1. McKillans
  2. Active
  3. MTM Hydro SGS28

Do you have any recommendations on what I should get? And from where?

TIA

  • The trouble you will have is most pressure cleaner brands have their own proprietary fittings, and adaptors are needed, if available.

    • Ah, so you're saying that if I get, for example, the Active, I can't just connect it to my pw black hose?

Ah, so you're saying that if I get, for example, the Active, I can't just connect it to my pw black hose?

I was a rep for Gerni, Karcher and Warwick in the 90's. There was also Kew and Kranzle. The only brand that had generic fittings was Warwick. You couldn't fit any of the high pressure hoses or guns to another brand.

I suggest you check compatibility with McKillans, Active and MTM Hydro SGS28.

        • I've checked. I have the standard pw hose that fits into the default gerni pw lance. It needs something to allow it to click onto the guns. All the guns seem to be the same. If it works for one, it'll then work for the rest.

I asked Bunnings if they had a Gerni adapter. No, was the answer. I found a petrol Ryobi that had the quick connector, but that was fixed. Can I take a punt and get an adapter online?

Let me get a photo of my pw hose. If I can figure out how to convert it with your help, then I can buy it.

          • @lordra: There are so many variables. Maybe best to talk to these people. Also try Enzed or Pirtek.

Reporting back. Went to Hills. They said they don't deal with pws and that I need a new end. They'd have to take the existing hose and crimp it to fit the new machine.

Went to Pirtek. He said the same thing, plus, he had a smaller surface Washer and it wouldn't run on his 2k psi pw. He had to get a 15Lpm and 4k psi as the pressure was being divided between two nozzles.
So he's 99% sure that I'd have the same issue. $200 for the hose. Just to give it a punt. Plus, attachments.

I'm sad. I guess I'll just return the surface Washer. Or try selling it on fb.

        • @CurlCurl Is paying more for a Kranzle over the Karcher HD/professional line worthwhile?

I've been using an Ali Express one on my Gerni, been fine for the couple years I've had it. You want one to fit a Nilfisk attachment.

    • Thanks for picture and the effort mate. I'm new to this and completely lost.

I'm guessing that the black bit at the end is called a Nilfisk attachment to which Google tells me is a company that makes garden stuff.

So what does the end that goes into the attachment look like?

I think this is where I'm struggling. I have the pw standard hose end. How do I convert it into THAT nilfisk thing, that then converts to the quick attachment on the gun please?

      I bought this from Amazon.

But I have no idea how it goes on, or how to attach it to the hose.

    • @greencomet

      • So you basically want to disconnect the high pressure hose from your original Gerni lance, it connects at the base near where the trigger is. That will then connect into your new shorter lance with the Nilfisk attachment on the base, that way it's all just plug and play with the Gerni high pressure hose.

This video will give you an idea of what I'm saying.

        • @greencomet that video was good. That connecter that he stuck on at the 0:25 second mark is the one in your picture, which is what I need. BUT, I need it to be compatible with my Gerni PW hose which looks like this.
Can either you or @CurlCurl give me a link to the right connector to buy to plug into the pw hose, that I can then plug into the Active pw please?

    • @greencomet are you able to please give me a link to buy the nilfisk adapter that I can use on my gerni hose please? Like the one you have?

      • @greencomet

  • Also, I bought this surface cleaner (another listing, but same bits and ends).
It has these skinny pipes that I need to connect to my PW, but I'm stuck.
    Here is a:
    1. Photo of the Gerni lance.
    2. Photo of the surface washer lance/attachment/stick. I need to be able to connect my PW to this stick that then goes onto the surface cleaner
    3. I went to Bunnings to ask if they had an adapter for my Gerni, but the answer was no. They had a petrol Ryobi that the surface cleaner went perfectly into. It looks like this.
    4. Close up of my lance end + the surface end LINK

Will buying the stubby gun solve all these issues? Or just an adapter for my Gerni lance will suffice?
    TIA

As I mentioned in a previous post, check Pertek and Enzed. I know they copied the Karcher industrial H.P proprietary hose fittings.

Removing the quick release from some lances is near impossible and some totally impossible.

Have you checked the link I posted?

as you are in Newcastle check this link.

    https://www.daynatech.com.au/services/

    • Good to know about Gerni copying Matcher.

Yes, I did see the link, I'll get in touch with Hills Irrigation first. I can get to them next week.

  • I'm using MJJC and I'm happy with it. Got sick of gerni guns dying within 18mths.

FYI, the standard gerni fitting on the end of the hose fits into the MJJC, when ordering I measured it and selected the appropriate the gun.

I had an autobrite foam lance and switched this to using the same 1/4" quick coupler. When the autobrite dies I will grab the MJJC lance and try it .

    • Thanks mate,
WHich MJJC gun did you get? Does it come with a swivel?
So you're saying that if I buy a MJJC gun, I'll be able to attach my gerni hose to it?

Edit, I found the link to the Gerni one. Is this it?
I have to buy the attachments on top of it. Will this solve all my issues?

      • @inertia8

        • Yes I think that's the one I have. If in doubt contact their support and they will help confirm. Swivel I'll have to check. My gerni hose went straight in and I've had to replace the oring on the gerni hose once ( I have an oring kit with many sizes, so this was easy). I also got the stainless long wand with attachments.

Be warned though that the rubber grip that holds the attachments has has a few of the attachment holders split. I have simply used small cable ties to cinch then up again and this has held up fine.

I normally leave my gerni in the yard and store the gun and wand in my shed, as I don't feel it would last well in full sun etc

          • @inertia8: Good to know. How much did you pay for the mjjc gun? Did you buy it direct from the mjjc website?

            • @lordra: Sorry for the late reply. Direct from their site.

$89.95 for the gun, $65.95 for the long wand 1/4 quick connect with attachments. $20 for shipping.

  • Everyone, I found a video on YT that showed me how the conversion works. He linked an adapter in his video, that took me to the MJJC store on Ali express.

I ordered it, it got here in a few days, the adapter converted my gerni lance into a ¼" quick connect which I can now use to connect to the surface Washer. Winning!

Still on the hunt for a stubby gun, but think I'll hold off because I'll need a new hose with a quick connect adapter like @greencomet has.

    • @greencomet

    • Glad to hear you got it sorted. The MJJC is a good product, I recommend the gun and the lance . Being 1/4" means you can use other accessories easily.

  • I have been using this one https://www.waxit.com.au/collections/mtm/products/mtm-sg35-s… for a good year now and all I can say the cheap stuff is cheap for a reason this one is my favorite atm.
